I think we could very well not have to worry about the progression system where it touches the unlocks if the game had a sensible Historical loadout option, just as it has a Classic loadout. The server admin clicks it, and problem solved. Realism or Classic Mode played with it, ranked with full honors.

PEM scopes free for everyone, Drum mags, 150 round belts, bayonets on or off, all cosmetic upgrades and the hole lot. Precisely what was used at Stalingrad, with little lenience. So no MKb42, AVT, MP40II, PT34 drums etc...

But even still, lowering the requirements for wacko realism and action modes would still be an honorable thing.

Historically based, it would be like this:

PPSH with drum mag, MG34 w/ drums and belts of various lengths.

Rifleman- K98 or Mosin-nagant

Assault/Squad Leader (rolled into one class)- SVT, MP40, PPSH, G41 (W)

Team Leader- SVT, MP40, PPSH, G41 (W)

Machine gunner- DP, MG34

Engineer- K98 for German, PPSH, Mosin-nagant for Russian

AT rifle- Single-shot type for German, Magazine-fed type for Russian

Marksman- K98 w/scope for German, G-41(w) w/short scope, SVT w/scope, Mosin w/scope for Russian

------------------

For close-in levels like Apartments, mostly SMG- based platoons could be used for the Soviet 'storm groups/SMG battalion'. + lots of engineers.

Germans could use 'Panzergrenadiers' on some levels, which were issued double MGs compared to the 'grenadiers'.

Historically based, it would be like this:

That's pretty much it, however the G41 would be a rare weapon and the G41 sniper even more, with no trace what so ever of the fantasy ZF4 G41. So the germans would see themselves using a few SVTs. And other differences, we all know how it goes. But for the reason of being more like RO1, Classic dropped the ball completely on that, Realism Mode went total uber fantasy everywhere.

But in these forums, that seems to be a non issue, since turning Red Orchestra into Call of Duty choose any weapon you want Warfare, is completely legit. As we all know, the history books tell us of Vasily Zaitsev and how he completely owned with his russian made Mkb42 with 1.5x ZF41 scope.

The barrel overheats (then you get a warning indicator), then, if you continue shooting a bit, the barrel breaks.

The Mg34 gunner has only 2 barrels, so if both break, the gun is now useless.
lol! i never pushed it that hard. you sure are hard on the equipment! i think we'll make you a rifleman from now on. ;)

I have the 250 round MG34 and like said in my sig, you can fire 250 rounds without a breakage.

It took me about ~1 week to get bot farming, sometimes I would get over 200 kills a round.

have you counted lately? pretty sure TWI took that 250 round belt away with the GOTY patch. it's like 150 or 175 now.

Is there a barrel upgrade? The barrel upgrade is very important..

ha, I've trying to avoid being a rifleman, lol. The barrel breaks after 30 or so rounds post warning-indicator...... When bot-farming the MG, the no. 1 problem is overheating barrels and baring no ammo dump, ammunition expenditure.

Yeah, the majority of NCOs/officers carried either the K98 or the MP40, or the captured PPSH or SVT in 1942. The G41 (w) was still carried by non-coms and officers, though, but not as frequently as the MP40.

There are broad estimates, but maybe 100,000 G41(W) made it to the front lines in 1942 and a few months after.

edit: As for the STG type rifles, they only came into the war, in large numbers- in late 1944 with the creation of the Volkgrenadier divisions. They were only common in the last 12 months of the war.

------------

Also, I now have 3 X 75 rounds + one partial drum for my MG34 basic loadout. That's a huge improvement over the level 1 MG, which only has 4 x 50.

So the MG34 ammo upgrades I've seen have been this: 4X 50, 5X 50, 3 X75+one partial

What are the next ones?

The ammo bonus comes from the class and not the weapon leveling. Is a mess, giving out incomplete magazines.

Bot farming as MG can annoying if there are other people on the server, who pop you rather easily. I have to fire from a fixed position, and I'm vulnerable. So I tell these players to lay off my turf, and I'll stay out of theirs, but most of the time they don't listen.

The worst people who play the empty maps are the ones that take it seriously- laying down smoke and so forth. These are generally bad players, who can't even bot farm very well and actually try to cap every objective. It irritates me to see them there. Once these fools appear, I just start counter-capping the game or stay put, hoping that the round will end as quickly as possible so I can collect my points and get out.

When did we drop the bar for how good our game experience should be?

But no, your are right, that's pretty much it, If I am going to botfarm, I also go for doing it in the most efficient way possible. I want to have the said weapon, but also want the botfarming to end as soon as possible.

Is time to bring those requirements down!

Yeah, agreed. I doubt that the requirements will change, though. I'm not going to botfarm any other weapon but the MG34.

The other weapons are nightmare to botfarm.

The presence of a single nut half-ruins my botfarming mission, and cuts my kill points down to half. I dealt with one yesterday- he spent the round trying to cap the objectives, and also to find and kill me. After being killed three times in a row by this guy , I simply just went ahead and capped the last two objectives.

The only weapon I used bots for was the C96, but I remember that it was pretty rare for me to finish even one round without someone joining the server. On a few occasions they would join my team and also run around with a handgun or another weapon they want to level. Most of the time they joined the other team and would call in arty, recon, throw smoke, constantly go into caps, etc. Usually I used the commander role for the sidearms but also for the added bonus of being able to control the bots. If the guy got on my nerves I would call the bots to a corner of the map and let him have fun playing by himself.

I just don't understand the point of joining a server with one person on it and a bunch of bots, going on the enemy team, and then playing like a try-hard. You would think that after the GOTY update it would happen less since the server browser actually shows the amount of human players, but apparently not.

The cynic in me tells me that they're just trying to 'self-empower' themselves because they can't hack it in a real game. I experienced everything you've said. They drop artillery, they throw smoke over my mg positions or shooting galleries, they listen for my MG bursts and try to track me down, etc.

They're not here to bot farm.

I say "Get out of this bot game, leave it for us farmers, and join a real one"...

Yeah, probably. I'm just surprised to hear that he fired 150 belts w/o getting his barrel broken...

The map can make a notable difference, there.

I just tested on two maps, using a MG34 with 75-round saddle-drums. On Fallen Fighters I got almost 3 full saddle-drums out, or about 200-210 rounds, before the barrel burst. Other winter maps are likely about the same. On Spartanovka, it burst just before the second drum ran out, for about 140 rounds. Sizable difference.

This included time to reload, so it'd be a little lower for belts and their fewer reloads.

That's good info, and I will keep it in mind whenever I play as Mg gunner.

Right now: Level 37, 1500 bot kills left to go.............

Apartments is like Spartanovka in terms of barrel heat. But it's probably the best level for MG bot-farming that I've discovered so far so I'm switching my 'work' to here.

---

When I get my level 50 MG (and probably, Hero rank), I will add 'Need Ammo' after my username and try to figure out how to play the 'offensive' machinegunner on all maps.

It has always been a desire for me to play Machinegunner on every map, get MG kill streaks, and suppress the hell out of the opposing team....

so the worse thing with the leveling system is people make it so you cant farm xp, and make you cry?

NO! the worse thing about the leveling system is that people can farm xp for unlocks. to get an advantage over people who play the game properly!

you see these ****s (thats the C word for lady garden by the way) all the time with their lvl 99 tag thinking they good when they often play like ****..

i thought were cool mr cross.. but now i see you for what you are... a non cool person
