How does the game compare to the recent Fallout titles? Does it play similar with the only large difference being the setting? The fantasy setting doesn't interest me at all, but I am trying to keep an open mind.

And would how Dragons Age compare? (Is it more like ME: With Dragons?).

The quickest way to describe it for you would be Fallout in a fantasy setting, yes. It has no similarities with either Dragon Age or Mass Effect whatsoever.

There is an open world, and a main quest that you are not forced to follow. The world itself is rich and full of hopefully (I don't have the game yet) interesting stories.

"Looks a little better than Oblivion" is a massive understatement.

Oblivion looks like garbage by comparison.

Well, I played it for a good 5 hours and I'm loving it. Unfortunately, I did not realize that my CPU heatsink has gathered dust and my CPU burnt out on me in the middle of the game. Pretty pissed off but I like to think of it as: "The game is so epik that my computer melted under its awesomeness." Gonna have to get a new chip before I can play again, god its like waiting for the unlock all over again.

Agreed, the dynamic shadows from the environment easily make it look better than Oblivion. Too bad the shadow filtering is pretty poor :\
But the mouse sensitivity bugs without vsync are pretty bad, apparently vertical sensitivity scales with your FPS while horizontal stays the same. And I'm not playing with vsync, I don't want over 30 ms of input lag with my monitor :|

Took this from reddit:
Saw alot of people asking how to assign weapons to numbers. Asign them to your favourites with the F key, click Q then hit the number buttons on the highlighted weapons. Now you can use that to switch fast.
Havent tried it, but its something that really needed :)

Is vsync enabled by default?

Sooooo yeah this game is the total ****. I have been playing for like 6 hours straight at least and am only stopping because I'm getting a headache lol. It's incredible. So much better than Oblivion, it's not even funny.

FINALLY a new game in 2011 that isn't a disappointment! This totally lives up to the hype!

I do like the open aspect of Fallout, so perhaps I will get this one eventually. I am assuming it is as finicky as the recent FO games, so I will wait a year or so until it is patched up.

Dark Souls is a far better game but there are areas where Skyrim is better:
1) You need to be in the "zone" to play Dark Souls were as Skyrim is relaxing.
2) Skyrim is on PC and I just flat out prefer playing on the PC.

Dark Souls, Witcher 2 and even a Elder Scrolls game beat Bioware down at doing fun detailed worlds...

I got it downloaded and installed maybe around 11-noon today... it's 4AM now. I already put in 9.5 hours (according to Steam) into the game. A few other friends on Vent have put in 19.4 hours for one, 23 hours for someone else, 18.7 hours for Yoshiro, 8.8 hours, etc.

Yeah, it's damn good.

Is that what that is? I noticed the mouse feels fine indoors (where framerates are buttery smooth anyway) yet outdoors vertical sensitivity is about half what horizontal is for me.

Seems like it could be an easy fix for a patch. That and the various tweaks that need to be made with the interface. Simple stuff like changing "E" so it closes inventories like it did in New Vegas instead of taking items, and having the lists on the left start higher up so you don't have to scroll down all the time. Hope they also fix autorun being disabled whenever you talk to someone too. These are all minor annoyances though.

So far I have played Skyrim to an unhealthy degree, it's absolutely my favorite game of the year and possibly of the decade. I'm blown away by everything so far.

Tell me that on expert and against creatures like Dragons, Giants, or Trolls.

Those things can obliterate you in a second or two if you're not careful. My last Dragon kill took (in game) the entire day/night cycle.

How are the difficulty settings on this game?
It was a slider in oblivion, and don't dare to touch it if you don't want to screw up the game.
I don't recall how it was in fallout 3, but I do recall that it barely made any difference from the default to the hardest.
