How the hell have you guys who don't have the game yet not been watching Giant Bomb's 12 hour live marathon of Skyrim?

http://www.giantbomb.com/chat/

They have like 7.5 hours left.

Earlier today at midnight PST they did 8 hours of Morrowind and Oblivion live stream.

Because I want to be a virgin D:

FFS gotta love how digital copies are still restricted to release by timezone.

Meanwhile I have to watch people I know from across the world enjoy the game before me because the sun happened to rise on their side of the planet first.

The wait is unbearable. To make matters worse, steam mocks me when I tried to read forums.

UI is horrible, there has been little to no effort put into making it more PC friendly. Game feels the same as Oblivion in terms of gameplay, with some small changes. Combat is basically same as Oblivion, with some slight improvements. Graphically it looks a little better than Oblivion, especially the faces and face animations.

Haven't really seen much of the story yet, just started playing. The default difficulty setting seems really easy. As a level 2 character I can with ease kill groups of guards and other NPC's.

Haven't explored too much, but the game world seems a bit more restrictive compared to Oblivion. More high mountains directing where you should go basically.

Still gonna keep playing tho, it's decent enough. Good thing I didn't get hyped up for this game, otherwise I would have been disappointed. Hopefully modders will quickly get to work on the game and at the very least have an UI fix out soon.

Some tweaks:

Spoiler!

My main worry about this game was that they would make a new UI for the PC making it hard to play from the couch in my 360 pad, I'm personally glad is unchanged. One person's heaven may be another one's hell =P

You're evil.

Fact remains tho that a PC release should have a keyboard/mouse suitable UI.

Tho there is some good news. Apparently if you press Q and hover your mouse over an entry in your favorites list, you can assign shorcut keys from 1-5. Haven't tested it yet, but I'm told it works. Should make things a bit more comfortable.

You are right, but since I'm benefited from it, I can't share your grief.

For me, I like to have the best of both worlds in every game I play, superior graphics and mod support of the PC version, and the comfort and lack of hand strain of the console controls. Me happy :3

Personally, I don't get how anyone could think that menus that are specifically made for maximum comfort on a console (e.g. Fable 2, Oblivion) are actually more comfortable than a menu like, say, Morrowind.
They're not. They are horrible, and I don't care if I'm inconvenienced by having to scroll through stuff using the cursor keys or the digi-pad...

What's wrong with pushing a cursor around with a control stick? They expect you to be able to aim like with a mouse, how come you can't be trusted to show the same dexterity while operating a menu? One that pauses the game, no less.

Anyway, I got through Gothic 1 and 2 just fine, I learned to live with the menu in Fable and even the ones in Fable 2 and Oblivion, although those two still annoy me. I'll learn to live with the one in Skyrim.

But still, I wonder who came up with these weird non-ergonomic design principles for controller operated menus everyone seems to be following now (even for PC versions) and if a jury would convict me, should I strange him.

The first thing I can think of is that is harder to pinpoint with a pointer with an analog control, specially if you are farther away from the screen than in a PC.

BTW the PC version of Skyrim does have a mouse pointer.

Which is why I bought it for 360 (that and I wasn't sure about the specs. As Fedorov said, one man's hell is another man's heaven.

Can't argue that, but it's not nessicarily a bad thing.

Combat is basically same as Oblivion, with some slight improvements.

See above.

Graphically it looks a little better than Oblivion, especially the faces and face animations.

One of the biggest/best changes to the graphics are the animations, methinks. I actually switch to third person for combat now. I never did it in Oblivion. It works quite nicely with my big 2h axe.

Haven't really seen much of the story yet, just started playing. The default difficulty setting seems really easy. As a level 2 character I can with ease kill groups of guards and other NPC's.

Are you killing random guards, or story guards? Story guards are easy, random ones are not.

EDIT: And people aren't really the threats. Dragons, mammoths, giants, and trolls have all managed to 1/2 shot me at leve 5-6.

Haven't explored too much, but the game world seems a bit more restrictive compared to Oblivion. More high mountains directing where you should go basically.

I'm going to go ahead and correct you here. The world is -huge-. The mountains merely divide it into lanes so you can't walk from one corner to the other in a straight line like Oblivion. I've only piddled around the opening province in the 5 hours I've been playing, and it feels huge. Morrowind used a similar technique to make their world 'bigger'

Still gonna keep playing tho, it's decent enough. Good thing I didn't get hyped up for this game, otherwise I would have been disappointed. Hopefully modders will quickly get to work on the game and at the very least have an UI fix out soon.

Not disappointed at all. Better than expected, actually. A lot of features and fixes from previous complaints without screwing the core gameplay. Me gusta. My only complaint is that dual wielding anything removes your ability to block. No me gusta.
