Whats your OS and ram? Random crashes like that are caused by setting textures to too high a setting, and/or having something else taking up too much memory, like antivirus or antimalware.

Win7, 8 GB RAM, AMD Athlon II X2 215 processor, Geforce 8800 GTS 512 MB gfx card.

I am currently running the second lowest resolution, and except for the settings on your ini, everything on medium, with bloom turned off.

For anyone still interested, i spent another evening messing around with the ini. This time trying to improve performance, and stuttering/hitching. With this I've never dropped below 50fps in any map with 64 players, and more importantly the whole game doesnt stutter when you look around or move. Smoke grenades and artillery can still mess up the framerate though. (I've got a 460GTX for those wondering)

Use it as before, backup the old ini, replace it with this, set shadows to low and textures to medium.

Config file worked for me yesterday - launched the game today, and can't load maps - crashes once I get in just as the 'Connecting' message is about to disappear and the MOTD displayed.

Slowly losing patience with the beta - may shelf it until release day :(.

These suggestions actually made it worse. it's so weird. This game ran like a dream (all high settings) before Saturday's patch. And now, even with all your .ini and all settings low, 20 fps tops. I'm done beta testing this ****.

What do I do if I prefer to play with shadows on low for more performance? It's Really annoying not being able to play these 2 maps. Is there a patch coming soon?

Yeah, I'd like to know when the patch is coming as well, but TWI isn't talking about it.

I even posted in general discussion when/if anyone had heard when the next patch is coming, but the moderators deleted it twice!

6 days left, and we aren't talking about game saving patches LOL.

This game is going to crash and burn with reviewers. 7/10 if their lucky.

You can try increasing the shadow quality if you want, the texture/shadow settings are mostly safety measures to prevent memory crashes.

I tried this because I was crashing on both maps (mainly as soon as artillery hit).

I could run Grain Elevator fine, not a single crash on it.

Since I changed my ini I got crashing now all over the place. Usually as soon as a map loads it crashes, or if I click disconnect it has crashed now.

I even went back, replaced the ini I changed with my original one, and now it's crashing as well on Grain elevator.


Not sure what is making it do that now :(.

I just upped my shadows from Low to Medium and it didn't crash on map-load after 5 crashes in a row.

I have learned that on those maps I need to stay away from 64 player servers. They will make me crash no matter which settings. Everything below that is fine, with no crashes.

For 64 players with arty causing lag, on top of what throumbas has done well here, I recommend the following changes to your ROEngine.ini:

My game crashes just loading redorchestrafactory and barracks..its the only two maps that crash while loading..will changing the dynamicshadows to true help with that?

I dont use these inis anymore in the new patch except for the shaders line as i find performance acceptable, but the LiveSock settings seem interesting, ill definately test them.

For bInitializeShadersonDemand, isn't it supposed to be enabled as True? Since by default it is false in the ini.
