Each of us who played Combined Arms would admit that the previous has something that gives it a much different, if not superior feel to the later.

I'll admit, I was one of those who looked down on Ostfront with a bit of a disappointment, considering that game 'ambiance' is what matters the most to me. Ostfront just didn't have the good old, 'heavy' and 'dirty' feel Combined Arms has.

What Ostfront lacks, in the end, is the quality sounds Combined Arms had. Thats it. Nothing less, nothing more. What made CA amazing was a combination of each kind of sound effects: more precisely FOOTSTEPS SOUNDS, BOLT SOUNDS, FIRING SOUNDS, AMBIENT BATTLE SOUNDS hell you name it.

When I play Ostfront, it feels like I am only wearing a pair of wool foot gloves while Combined Arms made a huge emphasis on the sounds your battlefield gear would make when you sprint around in the map. It really felt like you had 50 lbs of ammo belts and metal on your back, a crap load of equipment and lethal weapons. And what about the tanks... Hell if Tripwire simply ported the original CA tank sounds, no one would have complained.

I'd like to know if it would be -legal- if I did port over the old CA sounds to Red Orchestra: Ostfront as a mutator. I know it is possible, and I still have the files.

Anyone with me?

Yeah, I actually started working on this but have since let it lay dormant. I know what you mean though, about the movement sounds for instance (hearing the gear rustle about). The amount of sounds that needed to be extracted and reorganized though was a little overwhelming, also considering that Ostfront has more movement sounds meaning that the sound of your gear shifting as you moved would need to be spliced in to those sound files. Doable, yes, but it will take a while.

assuming you get a green light, I would love it if you were to bring back the old SVT-40 and G-43 firing sounds. those weapons sounded ****ing deadly in CA!
