You can never go wrong with a Casino type hill siege. Two sides shooting across a valley and the offence has to throw bodies and cannon fodder forward en masse to push the defence back.

Well, as far as I'm concerned I think it's pretty retarded to name maps after actual battles.

But you have plenty of good scenarios from actual battles that could inspire level-design

Such as :

-Japanese landings on wake

-American landings (on peleliu or tarawa whatever)

-Jungle fighting (saipan-like)

-Bloody nose ridge

-Henderson's field

-Aleutians (for nice snow and final epic banzai charge?)

And some urban map on manilla would be nice :p

Aussie Battles

Aussie Battles

I know battles where Australian troops were involved are not on the plan for the first release but Miln Bay, is a good one.

And one that has gotta be up there is Buna, 1000 men of the 2/9th infantry battallion moved to take dug in japanese positions and 86 men walked out. The 2/10th and 2/11th were involved and suffered similar casualties. And Shaggy ridge would be another good one. A series of very thin 4000 ft ridges fought over

Anyway just a suggestion.

Alligator creek from guadalcanal and also hendersons field
the umerbrogals and the airfield from pelieliu
mount suribachi from iwojima
Tarawa - just cos it was a tiny island and an epic battle
bloody nose ridge from okinawa
some urban maps from manilla or an okinawan village would be cool also.

Bloody Nose Ridge was part of the Battle of Peleliu, was it not? ;)

Well it appears that on the Rising Storm site, one of the most recent screenshots is labeled Nhpum Ga. Looks like we'll be seeing the Marauders! :IS2:

On the topic of Nhpum Ga, I have somewhat of a minor, special request. Would it be at all possible for the Rising Storm team to place some models of dead Chinese troops on that map? Even just one half-uniformed corpse. Or, if that's too much, a simple improvised grave with a Chinese marker.

It's just that no game I have ever heard of has even acknowledged that the Chinese fought alongside the Allies, despite poor leadership, terrible conditions of daily life, rampant corruption, and primitive logistics, paying a steep price in human lives while--in the eyes of Western strategists--only playing the unenviable role of tying up millions of Japanese troops in China. Even a broken Mauser C96 of Chinese manufacture as a piece of scenery would be a meaningful tribute to perhaps the least acknowledged major Allied power.

Not to mention that RS would be making history as the first Western FPS to ever depict China's involvement in World War II in-game in any form.:IS2:

I'm sure that Red Orchestra players of Chinese backgrounds would greatly appreciate the gesture. As for the rest of the community, they would most likely appreciate the opportunity for an Easter Egg hunt ;)

IWO JIMA!

i don't know if there are height limits to the maps.
is it possible to model the true height of the hill?

Easily... Suribachi is 160 metres tall - that's about 8,000 UU - editor allows about 72,000 from memory (which is prolly wrong).

Limiting factors on doing the actual volcano as a playable area would be more about optimisation or game-play.

If you want small unit, intensive jungle fighting don't forget about Burma campaign its will be great if it will be included ( with commonwealth forces ofc). I know thats big amount of additional stuff to make like unit models and gear, but if added later aftr release I wouldn't mind ^^

Cheers !

What I want to see most in the game:

1. Roi-Namur--Where four Marines were awarded the Medal of Honor within a 24 hour period.

2. Kwajalein Island--Perhaps the Army's finest action in the PTO

3. Eniwetok--This was a small scale, but very tough fight.

4. Tarawa--Can't go wrong there. It would be best to base the map on the 'beak' end of the bird shaped island of Betio.

5. Turkey Knob and Quarry, on Iwo Jima--the 4th MarDiv's side of the battle, which is usually always ignored.

6. Gavutu-Tanambogo--As for the Guadalcanal campaign, this part of it would be awesome since it was small enough to be accurately scaled and was likely the very first skirmish of the entire island hopping war.

7. Okinawa--Really, you should try to create at least 3 maps for this one, there was soooo much that happened there. The Pinnacle is a great option that many don't know about. The 7th I.D. performed quite admirably there. This battle deserves extra attention since it was worse than both the atomic blasts combined.

IMO, these are your best option since they would be the most feasable since the scale of these fights could actually be put into game form without too much sizing down. Additionally, NO ONE has ever done these battles before, so it would really give your game distinction. Here's to hoping you take these into serious consideration!

Also, to be honest, I hope you all shy away from designing stuff based on the movies--which seems to be just about every single person's idea on this thread. It looks like most people here hardly know anything beyond what was in the two Clint Eastwood movies and The Pacific miniseries. To be honest, none of those shows really portrayed what the real locations looked like...or when they did, it's not really feasable in a video game. It'd be best to base your maps off of real locations and intel from the war itself---NOT hollywood.

Just a thought...
