I have "The Ball" character and almost always use him. I don't play as him for the sake of showing it off and making people jealous. I play as him for the extra variety. Since most people were always used to seeing the same over-popular characters. I choose to play as a rare and fresh sight to look at.

I think the "The Ball" character should be now available to anyone who owns The Ball now. The Ball has been out for a year now, right? Well, they should make it so if you buy The Ball now, you will get him. That way, me and the others who pre-ordered got the exclusiveness to him for the long while. And anyone who wants him can still buy The Ball for him.

But, I do know that Tripwire said they made a big promise to those who pre-ordered The Ball that he would never be available again.

I would love to see this character be unlockable as he is my favourite but I don't even have him either. Now everyone stop trying to get locked content for yourself when you know you missed the time it came along. Sorry but please just leave it at that...

We're not gonna give up! I feel like singing Rick Astley song right now to The Ball character, heh... but yeah, I am pretty sure that if TWI asked those, who have the character, if they allow make it unlockable by buying The Ball, they'd mostly say YES and we'd be all happy :p

TWI could make a good amount of dosh if they ever decide to sell it as a DLC.
I wouldnt mind throwing $5 or 10 at it. I love KF enough and spent tons of hours that it would be worth it.

Who knows if that would happen ?

note : I got KF long after the Ball came out, so I never had a chance. Though I own the Ball now.
note2 : I rather give money to TWI for KF which I love than throwing $60 at big studios for a game I'll spent no more than 15-20h on.

Buying it in DLC: NO!
Getting it for buying The Ball: YES!

In short what I think about it.

Its just a char.. yeah i would love to have it, but i think its actually cool to have this "forever exclusive" character for those ppl who supported TWI and pre-ordered "The Ball"

I agree with opinion, that character should be available for everyone, who owns "The Ball" game. Those, who pre-ordered it, had 1.5 years of exclusiveness - enough imo. And making it exclusive for all owners of the game (like RO2 and TF2 characters) could raise "The Ball" sales too.

Can't put it in better words. I mean, those who have The Ball character don't even care about the exclusivity of it I bet  And even if they do, it's like mean to those who bought KF after The Ball was released :p

Everyone is missing the point. The reason for The Ball char was to raise cash. Pure and simple. I have no idea if TWI was in a bind, if they needed a quick infusion, if they needed to hit some sales goal, or they just wanted to thank people who purchased multiple games of theirs, but they offered a limited time offer to players who supported them. As TWI mentioned earlier, The Ball char will never be offered again. The point everyone is missing is that TWI promised this limited time offer and they don't view the char as a money making scheme. They view the char as A PROMISE they made and they aren't going to go back on their word no matter how many people complain.

I hated The Ball game. I thought it was terrible. If The Ball game had been published by any other company I wouldn't have purchased it. But since TWI gives away so much content for free I've purchased ALL of the DLCs to support them.

Yes, some people weren't around when the offer was available. But that doesn't make it different that any other limited run or exclusive offer in any other industry. TWI views The Ball char's exclusivity as their promise and they have made it known in no uncertain terms that they are not going to break their word.

A thought occurs. Those that have the model still want to feel the exclusivity, that sense of possession of such a rare character, and those that don't want it. Why not appease both by offering a recolored (perhaps even reskinned) version of it to those that purchased the game after release? Those that pre-ordered the game would still keep their exclusive version and get the new skin as well; which would please both camps, no?

I see what you mean, and I think I like it - like Steampunk foster, maybe steampunk ball character? :p

I think you are missing the fact that TWI isn't looking for a way to appease both camps. TWI has made their position clear and they are not apologetic about it. The Ball char was a limited edition run and they intend to keep it that way no matter how much bellyaching is done by some users.

YOU missed the point here. The point is so they KEEP their exclusivity, as well as Mr. Foster still does in the DLC, as well as there is free Steampunk Foster for something, I don't remember how, as well here could be additional version of The Ball character, like, Steampunk, too? That way the original The Ball character would still be exclusive AND there would be new one for those who have The Ball :)

Nope. The point of the thread, and the suggestion above, is to create a new "The Ball" char for players who don't have The Ball char. Sure, the "compromise" is to make it a little different but it is still going to be The Ball char.

"I know that this publishing house promised a limited edition hard cover book run, but since I can't find a copy of that book I want them to do another run of that book in paperback instead."

TWI's promise was to keep the exclusivity of the char. Simply modifying The Ball char is breaking that exclusivity because even if it is modified a little bit, it is the same char.

And if the suggestion is a completely different model, then why is it being tied to "The Ball?"

"Exclusive" means "exclusive for the next couple of months at least" in the gaming world anyway. Case in point: Halo CE, Fable, Jade Empire, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Gears of War, ... etc. pp.
If TWI wants to keep it exclusive, that's their choice, but they are in no way bound to it because of some promise of exclusivity.

Personally, I think giving those who have The Ball the character might be a little extra incentive for people to get The Ball. They can't very well pre-order it anymore, can they, but they can still buy it.

But they're playing hard-ball with the Portal 2 achievements too so I don't really expect them to budge here.

Not that I care. Doesn't seem reasonable to me, but I'm not invested in this on either side. I don't care for the chievos or the character and I'm not a harumph-harumphing stickler for rules, so...

Very first thing I thought of as well. :)

I really don't see the big deal here. There was an exclusive offer. Some people missed it. That's the whole point of exclusivity. I've missed the opportunity to buy into other exclusive offers. It happens people. Not a big deal.

that's how i'd see it too, but the issue seems to be that this character appears in the selection menues of people who can't get it anymore. that's different from just not having it, it's like rubbing their noses into the fact that they can't have it, each time the character's screen opens up. they should remove it in the next update. or give players an option to get it (would have been a solid salespoint for the gold box; to include all the characters, even the exclusives. that way it wouldn't even offend people who had to earn their chicken or whatsoever).

not a big deal you say, but the teethgnashing about exclusive characters is a subject that comes up a lot on both tripwire and steam kf forums. and i hope there will be a solution cause then there would be more room for other topics. :)
