Alright fanboys.

If I was hypothetically going to reinstall ArmA2 and give it another chance(#84583), which (SP) mods / missions / campaigns / other tweaks would you recommend?

Hypothetically there is no reason to bother, as the previous 84582 times are probably more than sufficient to point out that the game is simply not worth it from subjective point of view.

The only thing that seems to work is Arma:OA CO-OP. I don't have the recommended system to play it, but I play it with the default graphics settings and get pretty smooth game play. And I'm the biggest critic of the game and hate CO-OP and SP with a passion.

I'm, however, not bashing the game for the sake of bashing it. I fell in love with OFP: CWC. I felt like the Arma series kept adding on new things without ever fixing the problems that plagued OFP: CWC. And at times, which I can't prove, it feels as if BIS doesn't put much effort into their product because the modding community will fix their game for them. Unfortunately that hasn't turned out well for BIS's product and is a poor business model if that turns out to be true.

Thats why I'm equally fan of TWI & BIS.
I don't really see any other company's out there to match them.

I've OFP GOTY + everything else that followed BTW.

Gotta support the ones you like.

I really liked reading that large retrospective of the last ten years, pity they never did OFP 2 their way, otherwise we would have had a REALLY good Vietnam game.

Is this happening to anyone else? I can only get mod folders like Invasion 44 for example to work if I put them in the "My Documents" Arma 2 folder. If I put them in the actual Arma 2 folder in my Steam directory, it won't load them properly in Combined Operations. I can load the mod fine in regular Arma 2, but I44 needs CO to run properly.

It wouldn't be a big deal, but my harddrive is partitioned in a way where C really can't have 1.5gb mods floating around.

Sounds strange because I have no problems at all running my addons on CO. Perhaps you have steam version of OA and Box version of ArmA 2? These two can't combine as far as I know.

Anyway try this:
Copy I44 folder to different drive. Create a new shortcut to arma2oa.exe or arma2.exe. In field "target" add

"-mod=d:\folder\mod\"

where d:\folder\mod\ is location of your I44 directory.

They're both Steam versions. You see, Steam doesn't really combine them, it just fakes it with a .bat file that temporarily smooshs them together. If I use a desktop shortcut with a command line, it won't be CO, and Steam's own internal command-line system doesn't cut it apparently.

Oh well...

I ask guys from my clan. Many of them have steam version and run CO with all kinds of addons w/o single problem.

Like Oldih said, you should try ArmA 2 launcher.

of the series i actually found ( i say found cos my decent pc is out of action right now) myself playing arma 1 coop the most, even when i had the sequel, because it felt like cwc only with better textures.
Some ppl objected to this lack of progress but i liked the familiarity, i guess it was out of nostalgia, and i also found myself getting very attached to the island.

Arma 2 to be fair was a decent step forward from it's predecessors i think - particularly with more realistic environment and buildings - and i acknowledge it as the best version that's great for organized coop.

However the casual nature of the evolution missions with ace on arma 1, where you could drop in and out of the campaign as you wished, from lone wolf to part of a huge logi effort, were some of the best times I've had in the series.

This is coming back for ArmA2 in the form of MSO, which is in beta right now. :IS2:

If you'd be online in steam when I am then I can walk you through man.
It's definitely either a problem on your side or something that you do wrong.

Use a launcher ( find on armaholic, I recommend http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241&highlight=SPIRITED+MACHINE+ARMA+2+LAUNCHER ). I have steam arma 2 oa as well so I feel your pain, but it doesnt have to be that bad, that launcher will save you many headaches.

Second is that all CO mods ( afaik ) should be located in the arma 2 OA folder not the standard arma 2 folder.

hope that helps.
