I admit that I pulled the trigger on this sale, even though it was still more than I wanted to pay. I really just want it so I can make INV 44 work.

Arrowhead's campaign is much better. I finished it, but there can be some bugs. It seems more realistic with more defined objectives. Less buggy overall though, and rather short.

Too bad I can not use the Steam DLCs or else I would have bought them on sale... hopefully Amazon will have a sale, though I am not looking forward to using their download client again!

Bought this recently, am I the only one who finds the AI to have ridiculous detection abilities? I was doing a scenario where I parachuted into an enemy base in the middle of the night, planted sachel charges on a bunch of tanks, sneaked out of there and then detonated them. I was on a hill about 300 metres away lying perfectly still while prone and I was spotted in the light of the explosion.

Nope. AI behavior can range from really dumb to hyper aware. If you're prone and move slowly, you can almost bump right into them sometimes. However, fire off a shot from anywhere and quickly expect a hail of return fire. There are mods that make them act more realistically and the difficulty settings you choose will change how smart they are, how quick and accurate they target you as well.

My biggest problem with playing with AI is that after a while they become very predictable. You know that they will shoot back for a bit, then get up, run a few yards, look around, go prone and fire again. You get used to waiting for them to stand there immobile for a sec so you can pick them off.

That's why I try to only play PvP. :D

As far as those new to the game, *****ing about the controls ect and how different it is. Well..... it's way different than anything else you have ever played, a fast twitch style of play doesn't work well. You can't just expect to succeed at it right away. It takes a while to get used to it, movement speeds, the weapons, ballistics, ranges and on and on. I found the campaigns and bootcamps to be minimally useful, I think the armory and some of the challenges are far better for improving weapon skills and learning how the game plays. They are like mini SP missions. Particularly the assassination one, stealing a vehicle and being hunted down. Those are the best.

Also for the new guys, remember that most of the weapons with optics, you can switch between it and iron sights. I bound a mouse button for that, it'll improve your CQB skills considerably.

This will require you to remap your entire keyboard, but it helps a lot, at least for me, from the little that Ive played since doing this. Set the movement keys to "esdf" rather than "wasd".

You get a couple extra keys on the left side and make the rest of the keyboard a little closer.

Well, I've been using a keyboard setup based around "yghj" since, uhm, Quake 1. The little finger operates 9 keys on the right, while the index finger and thumb share for at least 9 keys within easy reach on the left (I am left-handed). So, yeah.

I specifically remember that setup was organised thus to be able to switch to the rocket launcher in Quake easily. Or something like that.

Does anyone know which graphic settings affect the trees the most? I get rather decent frame rates in the game until I come to an area with a lot of trees. Then it turns to a slide show.

I am thinking of turning shadows down to low. Any other settings I should look for? I don't see any options to turn down the quality of only the trees unfortunately.

Edit: And for those with ACE and the Russian forces addon for it, where can I download the ace_c_men file(s)?

I think there was a low-poly brushes mod for ArmA1. Maybe something similar has been concocted for ArmA2's trees. You're probably not the only one with the problem.

I believe I used this. Either that or I turned down the vegetation levels some how.

Turning off post-processing barely makes a difference visually, so I have that off currently.

It only made a 1-2 frame rate difference between disabled and medium. And this is when I am getting 15-18 frame rates in trees. I disabled it anyways as I hardly notice difference visually.

The rest of the settings only yield 0-2 frame rate increases from going from high to very low or disabled. I'll probably turn more settings down, but even with all settings on the lowest I doubt I can get 30 frame rates in areas with dense forests/trees.

Perhaps my video card (GTX 260) is just too ancient to run it... luckily I get 50-60 frame rates in small towns or treeless areas. :p

Anyone playing this game with an HD 69502GB or GTX 560? If so what frame rates do you get and at what settings?

I have Gigabyte GTX560 SOC and I run ArmA 2: Combined on highest graphic settings with tons of addons and mods fine. However you must remember ArmA 2 engine likes higly OCed 4 core cpus. I've got nice fps boost after I OC'd my i5 2500k to 4.2Ghz. My average framerate is ~50 (multiplayer), but there still might be fps drops when a lot of stuff is messing around on your screen.

For ACE update: if your community/unit/clan doesn't have file repository you always can update ACE here. Go to the bottom of the screen and there you have Addonsync links.
