The demo blows, it's buggy and hard to get a decent fps with it. Just buy the game and learn how to play it. It's worth the time invested to get up and running.

Check out youtube videos to get a feel for how it plays if you're unsure.

I figured I get it for $8...yuck is all I have to say. Tried to drive to the MOUT range, managed to run into a tree...and get stopped cold. So I just jumped out, two guys in balclavas are standing in front of me and I'm just watching them. They split off in two directions. One of them then stops, crouches, slowly aims towards me and shoots. And I die! In training! I was so confused by the horrid AI that I wasn't sure if I should shoot them or not. And then I got shot by real bullets. I was also surprised the game devs put no effort into the voice acting. I can excuse the battle chat because its pretty unique and serves its purpose well, even tho its pieced together and sounds awful. But talking to a black sergeant and hearing a white-as-a-wall voice? That was jarring. Whatever immersion the game can offer me, is ruined by the awkward controls (do I really need three movement speeds?) and the zero effort put in to voices. The game is just not for me. Its TOO far beyond what Red Orchestra offers in realism. Seems like a very, very niche audience that the game offers. Good, then, that everyone can try it out currently at only $8 then. Maybe I'll try the game again later on but for now I have too many other things that are actually fun for me.

Also, what in the world is the hip fire doing being just as accurate as when you aim with optics? In a game like ArmA?

the demo and game proper run about the same. if you don't like the premise of the gameplay offered in the demo, you're not going to like the full game. 'nuff said.

and considering the way the engine works and how 99 percent of the mods are based on realism and tactics, you won't be getting your cod/bf fix here.

better for you to run along to ea or activision imho.

The movement controls are not that bad, but can use some tweaking. As far as the training mode, I don't recall any enemy AI there... I have played most if not all of the training missions in ArmA 2 and Arrowhead. Perhaps you ran over or shot a friendly? They will kill you if you kill friendlies.

The voice acting in ArmA 2 sucks, and it is not nearly as bad in Arrowhead. But voice acting is not very important in a game like this anyways.

The movement speeds are fine.

As for the AI aiming at you slowly, this happens to me to sometimes. Sometimes they are very quick, sometimes they become slow... I am not sure why. The AI can become dumb sometimes.

The fun lies in the mission editor. If you're expecting a BF or RO like game where you just run for a few moments, shoot, respawn, then this is not it. ArmA 2 is about completing proper missions. Or you can do random things... I made my own custom "CQC shooting range" in the editor.

Also, what in the world is the hip fire doing being just as accurate as when you aim with optics? In a game like ArmA?

I'm not sure what you mean? Holding your rifle at the hip or shouldering it won't make an accuracy difference for the rifle itself. This isn't BF2 where holding an M249 at your hip will magically decrease its MOA by 800%.

The rifles accuracy won't decrease if you're holding it down at your hip assuming you're holding it just as stable... but your ability to hit what you're looking at will. ;) ArmA 2 does a perfect job of modelling this.

Yeah but I mean, aiming down at the shooting range all the way down at the furthest target it doesn't seem to make much sense that a person can hit that target in one shot from the hip, unless they got supremely lucky. Because there's nothing pointing to exactly to where you're aiming at in reality unless you're aiming.

And the enemy AI is on the MOUT training in the first 'mission' in the boot camp menu. The one where you can learn the basics like shooting, first aid etc. I was driving on the way and saw two guys running before I got out of the humvee, I was like 40 meters from the waypoint to start the MOUT course and they gunned me down.

Permanent map info off, same for way-point info and no cross-hairs and you're good to go.
Setting up your controls is a real hassle but once you've worked it out, there's nothing to beat em, imho.

Took me years to really appreciate the game.

Hey, if I was a bot in ArmA and you stood there just looking at me and asking dumb questions, I would probably let you have a slug in the left foot...
Get my point.

Tried too hard to buy the DLC's, but nope. They're still not worth it.

Well if you consider ArmA 2 campaign "abortion", expect more of the same. I never finished it as well. Thankfully community generated campaigns are much much better.

Well tbh Arrowhead's campaign is a lot more simple in it's set-up than ArmA 2's campaign was.
Or in other words, the missions are less likely to bug out, because they tried to do less in the campaign. Missions are of a more simple set-up instead of the huge Area of Operations with multiple missions going on at the same time with dynamic combat etc like there was in Harvest Red.
