Probably between tits.
This game fails on so many levels, but because its so ambitious, i cant help but forgive and continue to play. its definitely a very deep and intense game. i enjoy it, its very ambitious but the dev team is just straight out lackadaisical in their execution: namely the animations, the sound, and the programming. game breaking bugs, guns that lack and end up sounding like capguns, the reload animations are straight from N64 Goldeneye, the soldiers backpack that sticks out of the vehicle when hes driving, just all out lack of attention to detail. like handing in a big 500 page report with mustard stains on it.

with time this could be a good game (how many times have ppl said this about arma?)

Well said, my sentiments exactly!

When everything works, it's one of the most engrossing gaming experiences ever. However, all it takes is two words to bring the whole thing down: black screen. :/

When you put in the "mustard stains", (nice one, by the way), it's all gone, Pete Tong.

Not necesarily.
It depends on what server the game is running, what kind of mission you are running (Domination map with 100+ players for example is a garantueed lagfest), etc.
You need to find the right server or missions to play (Domination sucks either way, i cant see what is appealing in Domi at all)

Small teaser of our latest operation.
We still have a few comm issues with ACRE but I'm sure those will get sorted out soon.

I was in 2Sec (the ones in the distance) and was part of the 2 man recon team that snuck up towards the fuel station. We encountered a full squad there and took them out pretty quickly. Before this vid starts we landed in a hot LZ and got engaged by around 20 contacts.

That's why I play ArmA2.

Looks like you found yourself a nice squad. The biggest critics of ArmA 2 never try that out.

Why are almost all of you carrying backpack radios? Isn't that a bit... unrealistic? Not that I mind, but I think it's more realistic if only one or two guys carry the 'big' radios. Not sure how it's done in the British or Dutch Army though. Also, the BAF units are cool eh?

Currently we're developing a new concept within our community. Basically it's a monthly op which we prepare a strategy and OPORDER for and it's co-op mixed with PVP and a bit of roleplaying. By roleplaying I mean that a player might act out the role of civilian, hostage, informant etc. Much more interesting than a lifeless AI. :) And we'll probably use ACRE. We have a guy on our team who was an officer in the Dutch army. He helps us out with a lot of stuff. Also a couple of actively serving soldiers. It's nice to have such guys on the team.

Here's our channel by the way:

Our current set up for radios is that everyone has a PRC-148 (small short range radio) and that the IC's have long range radios. The reason why you see so many long range radios is that the guy who filmed this was our CPT. Only NCO's and Officers carry long range radios.

Our current ORBAT:

Give a long range radio to anything above PTE and you have our radio setup. We decided against dedicated radiomen because that creates more confusion than desired.

In total we have 6 Long range radios on the ground and three in the Air.

I would love to play in a squad but there isn't a local one I've found in Australia, also the games performance issues cripple me hard!

Looks like your squad is more milsim, with the ranks and awards and stuff. We don't want to go that far tbh. But we're definitely adding more realism these days.

We held our first 'pilot' PRO-Op last night. It was fun. :) I played the role of the high value target, Colonel Aziz. The team (split up in Alpha, Bravo and Charlie) was supposed to capture Aziz alive while he was refueling his SUV south of Zargabad. We used VTS so we could spawn enemy patrols on the fly, making things more dynamic. I could hear the Team Leaders speaking with HQ / the Game Master who I was in the same channel with. As the teams moved closer to the fuel station I escaped in my SUV with my two bodyguards and took shelter in one of the villages as the Game Master spawned enemies around me.

TDNL chased me after they took out a couple of technicals and secured the fuel station. After a while Alpha breached my hiding place and killed my bodyguards. I then showed resistance by firing at them (but deliberately missing them) and yelling on TS "I WILL NOT SURRENDER, GO AWAY INFIDELS!". But then Bravo who were covering the street made a mistake; they wound up accidentally killing me through the window. :D So it was mission failed, but that's not a bad thing; it was the first time we did something like this and we learned a lot. Lots of good teamwork there.

Some screenshots of the final phase of the mission.

Well, it's only milsim when it comes to the game. When we are not in game then we are just a bunch of friends. :D

Also having a rank structure is only beneficial when it comes down to organisation and planning of a mission. After all the military has a reason to do it that way.

Well, it depends on the team's philosophy. There are milsim squads who try to do everything by the book (ranks, tactics, communication, names, procedures, training etc) but that's not how we do it. We like to keep things open and relaxed. Besides, many things that make things more simple IRL actually makes things more complicated in a game. Not everything works. I guess our philosophy can be compared to that of ShackTac ("serious fun"). Relaxed and open, but still organized and with teamwork.

Unrelated: I wish I could go back in time and strangle the guy who made Evolution / Domination.:IS2:

Indeed, a good milsim squad recognises this.

That was great Rak. It looked like you didn't get the great 1km height that sometimes happens in ArmA, but the horizontal velocity was surprisingly high.

NOES

On-topic: LemoN, do you know if it's possible to listen to two frequencies at once in ACRE? For example: you're squad leader Alpha and want to listen to your team's communication over the hand-held radio but at the same time listen to the other squad leaders who are 6km away using the manpack radio.
