You know what they say, SiC, "the best intentions cobble the road to hell". The game's rough and somewhat shoddy in certain respects. Some people like it. Some don't.
I don't mind, it serves as that nice retro touch, back from the days where game design was much more lax. I like my games pixely, tbh.

I agree with you about Arma 2 dex, though I don't think the ambitiousness and scope of it makes up for anything. It's an ok game but the serious lack of polish, bugs and never ending performance issues stop me from playing it.

yeh it doesnt make up for anything - the scope of it makes things even more difficult: you FINALLY arrive at the battlefield only to find that the mission is now bugged, or the AI couldnt swim and all died, etc. every time that happens i tell myself, "well at least the journey over there was neat"

i try my hardest to excuse ARMA's failures (climbing a ladder, i have to go thru a menu?! WTF!). its a very big project, but like STALKER (call of pripyat!!), i think ARMA needs to focus hard on its main problems (i hold shift to run, but it wont, so i have to right click and then i can run?!!!!!!!!! WTF!). like if they just took their expansion and treated it like its a brand new game; giving it all the love it needs.

"the best intentions cobble the road to hell".

thats a very polish quote, i should know, jestem polakiem!

Uhm, a quick google-fu revealed that quote, so I assumed it circulates in an English version as well (the original being Dobrymi intencjami piekło jest wybrukowane would lend itself, were we to be very literal and direct, into "Hell's cobbled with good intentions"; no roads there).

don't you get a green arrow on screen as your middle mouse button option when you're in position? but yeah i'm not going to argue that arma is fluidly smooth.
you do get used to it though- i find the double tap forward for run ok tbh.

anyone playing tonight?

i see on the arma site that the british pack appears to have a retail box, but i take this as a mock up as the buy screen offers no retail option.
If a retail version does come out i'd get that, but i see no plans to release one..

So, If you have arma2/arrowhead retail, do you have to go with the sprocket dig download? - i take it the steam version wouldn't be a good idea or can you regester the whole thing over to steam?

I've retail ArmAII & OA and used Sprocket for the BAF content.
Works like a charm and I've burnt a CD to backup the data.

Good :)
Just a note for others who also have retail copies of ArmA 2 and OA, this wouldnt work with the Steam BAF i think.
Sprocket or Gamersgate would be the way to go, though Sprocket gets more money into BIS's pockets :)

ok thanks - i would presume so too but i haven't seen this specific advice on the BiS site.

Like i say, i'd like to see the pack get a retail release - if i hear of plans i'd hold on.

Well, the simple problem with BAF on Steam is that it won't let you buy BAF if you don't have OA on steam. :)

ok cool - so they don;t absolutely need to point it out cos you can't make the mistake anyway.

i'll have arrowhead soon - but until then is anyone up for a vanilla mission or to in the near future?
I've been playing arma 1 coop domination on SW with ace mod in the meantime - which i still very much enjoy.
