Nice one Nimsky im not to bothered about the addon but the 1.04 patch looks good :),

Howdy folks,

We just wanted to give you a brief update as to what's going on with ArmA II and what we're working on, our immediate plans and such:

  • Patch 1.04 for ArmA II is currently in progress, we carefully read the feedback on the forums as much as possible, sometimes of course it can get a little heated and unclear so we also use the Community Issue Tracker, these are the two main points for collecting feedback from the community.

A couple of prioritised areas we're hoping to address for 1.04 are "mouse lag" (this is something we've not been able to reproduce locally but we believe there are a couple of things we can do to help the situation for those users who do seem to suffer from it), the second area we're prioritising is improving performance, especially in urban areas, of course there will be other things addressed in 1.04 but it's too early to go into details about those just yet.
  • We're finalising the complete editing tools suite for release, more info can be found at http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BI_Tools_2
  • Dedicated Linux server, we know this is something the community of course is eagerly waiting for, we continue progress on this but cannot at this point give any time-scale for the release, unfortunately it's not quite as simple as some might think to release a Linux version of our dedicated server but rest assured we're making progress.
  • We're working on a new plan for the best way to be able to establish more regular patches release, as well as to grant access to interim versions, to those community members willing to help us with testing various aspects of planned changes in the core engine.

So hopefully a few things for you all to look forward to there, you guys have already taken great steps to ensure that ArmA II has a solid fanbase and community and hopefully some of the things we've outlined above will ensure that this continues for a long time to come.

Please continue with your feedback, suggestions and bug reports, we try to read as much as we can and when possible will give comments back, but just because we're not talking doesn't mean we're not listening!

Say, I saw the game today, surprisingly cheap (somewhere in the region of 20 Euro) here, so now I'm asking you two things:
a) is it worth that sort of money?
b) on my GeForce 9600 GT (slightly O/C), Dual Core E6750 O/C to 2.93 GHz and 2 Gig RAM - will it run in a satisfactory manner?

Just buy the game...

You will only have the same problems as everybody else.

Its good and getting better.

A little more ram and a better GPU will help somewhat.

Thanks...

And there's so much free content being generated by the fans. It has aggravating parts, but it has a lot of cool elements that keep bringing you back.

Like RO, it really shines when you play multiplayer on an organized server like Tactical Gamer, Shacktac, etc.

Aight, bought it and so far I've been having loads of fun and only one crash. The armoury (or whatever's the name in the English-language version) and challenges therein - albeit seem repetitive, there do happen pure jewels.
Just spent the last hour silently crawling through the bushes near an airstrip, dodging a nosey jeep going to and fro, to get within 98 metres of my assasination target, some high ranking officer... Sadly he was not peeping out of the hatch of his BMP and even though I did take out his two crewmen, he took me out - after I rained my whole-but-one load of nades on his vehicle. When I was reloading the last nade, he jumped out of the vehicle and took me out. But was loads of fun, gotta say.

Just installed nVidia 190.38 drivers over the 182.50 ones and I noticed a quite visible performance increase, which was really nice. Increased draw distance by 200 metres or so, to some 1700, too.

Oh new drivers, what GFX card have you got and have Nvidia made any ArmA II changes for their drivers?

A 9600GT, O/C a bit - as I said, I noticed a difference, but I haven't measured it. But I'm rather positive that it was tangible. The release notes for the drivers did not mention anything specifically connected with Arma2, as far as I can gather.

Edit: BTW, the manual claims that points won during missions (SP & Campaign) should be going towards unlocking items in the Armour - but they aren't, and hell will freeze over before I unlock the other 80% of that stuff. Halp?

Maybe the comand to open up the armoury from Arma still works? Can't remember what it is now though.

Or just mess around in the editor without bothering about unlocks.

Oh, great and now I'm paranoid about my HDD dying on me, because - Arma2 being that HDD intensive - in periods of duress, it's making a godawful clicking sound. It did that before, but it was a single click, once every umpteen hours, now it's getting frequent. Not only that, I've found out that my Seagate 7200.10 has the sucky-sucky AAK firmware that's decreasing its performance.

Oh bummer. My inspirational tune for the time being.

Sources say: no - turns out the difference is actually also on the hardware level. [Edit: I changed it to SATA2, removed spare HDD trays and rearranged the cables; better heat performance and stopped doing that awful sound - funny, as I didn't have it on SATA2 right off the bat because I was paranoid about the drive failing too fast, and now it turned out to be the apparent solution to prevent it from doing exactly that, hah]
