Maybe because people want to learn about expensive marriages and generally the lives of others, just like it happens with so many Hollywood "stars", but being tradition and all it gives them an excuse so they can gossip all they want. Besides, Britain is full of useless magazines and biographical books about people who should have never been famous in the first place.
Edit: Oh and what Bluehawk said of course, but deep down I don't want to believe that people still think this way and see what is left of the aristocracy today as something more than profits from tourism.
