I don't know, maybe I'm odd that way, but I don't really see the huge 'dislike' factor behind shakespeare; Julius Caesar was interesting, as was Othello, Romeo and Juliet was not all too great, but eh it was better than expected. Machbeth and Hamlet aren't bad either. And the comedies and histories also are excellent!

I think all the hate comes from being forced to read and analyze it; I've seen that also happen with such great books as Animal Farm and 1984.

Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth are great however Romeo and Juliet is hackneyed nonsense, why they had us study that in school rather than some of his better works is beyond me.

I'm guessing it is because of some of the subject matter (like incest for instance) screw them, I first read American Psycho when I was 16.

One of the perks of attending a one room school house (International School of Paris) and later Thessaloniki International High School. No Hamlet! Lots of French and Greek culture and language studies, but got to miss the Shakespeare thing. Made up for it in college though

You studied in Greece?!

Heh didn't expect that.

yeah, Romeo and Juliet, as I said, was not to my liking at all, but was still better as a whole then some peoples interpretations of it (usually the ones where people cut out what little death there is)
