Do you think some maps could have the cold temperature play a part in it? Like if its cold enough you can freeze to death, and you have to take extra clothing from dead guys, or maybe it could affect certain weapons and vehicles?

I like your idea..but it would spoil the fun of gaming.. ;)
It would be TO realistic if you know what i'm saying.

(I only like the idea of affecting the weapons and vehicles..dying because of the cold and things would be rediculous)

Well ROOST already affects certain weapons. Specifically, it affects the MG barrel cool-down time. The colder the ambient temp is set to by the mapper, the faster it cools down.

Other than that, I don't know of any other effects.

If they really wanted, they could model the ballistic effects of colder/denser temps on bullet trajectory, but I'd think it would be negligible.

I do recall suggestions on the ROOST forums for visible breath when it's cold. That would be kind of cool, and very atmospheric.

As far as effects on players, I don't know about grave robbing clothes, but I wouldn't be oppose to modeling one side being better equipped with cold weather gear. Warmer clothes would lead to more stamina (it's really tiring to be freezing, as your body uses a lot of calories to keep you warm). But the downside might be movement speed, as you would have bulkier / heavier clothes. If the mapper really wanted to go crazy, they could assign warm values to indoor areas, and cold values to outdoor areas.

That might be beyond the scope of the game though.

I didn't say dying because of the cold, but do you know how hard it would be to shoot if you were shivering?

Wouldn't be concerned about those rolled up sleeves either.

Blowing snow and/or frosted optics (rifle scopes & tank sights) could work here.

Rifle scopes would only frost up if you go from warm to cold. If it's been been in the cold before the battle, it shouldn't frost up.

Thinking about anti-fogging cream I guess.

Maybe it was in Wachter's book Sniper on the Eastern Front, where Allerberger kept his scope covered with a cloth to prevent it from frosting, even to the breath.

"Like if its cold enough you can freeze to death" <= You did say this in your topic.
But if you mean shivering because of the cold.. wow.. that would be awesome!

Wounds are generally more lethal in cold. Bleeding decreases body temperature etc. How about in snowy maps or in blizzard you die 25% faster of bleeding than in summer?

I think I'm thinking about fogging. So never mind. I suppose frost could eventually build up on it given enough time.

Stupied idea id say! its a game not real life!

The formatting might be a bit off but I think that the post holds good thoughts. Like dying faster from bleeding due cold. And I don't know about Russians but Germans had severe problems with their gun freezing. Maybe MG-gunners should have to apply gun oil from time to time to prevent their weapon from jamming?

PS. now we gotta make this a spamthread so TWI guys will become curious enough to come and take a look, and maybe even comment the suggested features:D

Don't you :IS2: at me!!! :p

If TWI need to implement everything that real soldiers experienced then HOES isn't going to be fun. It's going to be like joining the army, getting beaten up, starved, and going to visit a frozen version of hell.

(Also : I've already had a PM from the dude, so we is coo'! - I am sure...)
