^Title^

Why not? I thought it would be fun to know how others started with this.
Don't complain about RO2 here, just post your story, no matter how long it is! :D

To be honest, I never knew anything about RO until 2008, when the Steam news window popped up, announcing "Red Orchestra for only 5$". Then I thought "Aw 5$ is all I have in my credit card, but it seems promising, so why not. *starts reading description* >Realistic WW2 shooter<, oh yeah!". I bought it. At first, I decided to practice a bit in singleplayer. The controls were very awkward, although, the realistic bolting system and free weapon movement made my jaw drop! It was hard and I died a lot, but once I got used to the controls, I joined a multiplayer server. First impression - everyone was very welcoming and nice enough to help me out. Second, I felt like I'm in a true battlefield: artillery blowing up near you, people screaming of pain, bullets whizzing close to your ears. Amazing immersion that made my heart fill with adrenaline. Since then I didn't remove RO from my Steam games and I always found time to play it. It was a trully amazing game, until I found out about RO2... IN DEVELOPMENT! Ever since, I read these forums to this day...

I was in a CoD based tactical realism clan called {BHC} at the time. This was back in February 2006. In the TR community there was this buzz about this new game called Red Orchestra that was supposed to be ultra-realistic and was supposed to be released soon. {BHC} had about 75 members at the time and many/most of us were going to be buying it on release.

So, March 2006 release date rolled around. A bunch of us bought it. I personally bought it (my very first Steam game purchase) and played it for about six (6) hours over the next few days. Then frankly I uninstalled it as it was far too clunky for me. Over the next few years I would occasionally re-install it thinking I might like it now (assisted by the fact that the CoD series went downhill fast after United Offensive (though some really loved CoD2; I was more "meh" with it...). At any rate, fast-forward to mid-2010. I begin to anticipate the release of RO2. And with the CoD series all but dead (for PC anyway) in my eyes I re-installed RO1 in about June of this year and took the time (this time) to learn and adjust to the different feel of RO1. And frankly I fell in love with it. Played it until the release of the RO2 beta.

Played RO2 since. And I really like most things about it very much. Though I am currently not playing much because I want to wait for mods and maps to be released. For a former CoD guy -- that statement (that there will be tools released) is euphoric! Love it.

I was in a big box store looking for printer ink for the office printer, walked past a shelf that had a PC game with a Tiger on the box, and thought "Cool, a Tiger, I should buy this." Completely random as that just happened to be the week the game was released. It was the first game I ever played online. Sometimes the :IS2: works in mysterious ways.

It was my first game to ever play on the PC. It was in 2008 and my brother was constantly nagging me to try it out where I would reply "PC games are stupid, I like xbox." Through all the nagging I finally tried it out and fell in love with it. My brother couldn't get me off his computer so he bought it for me, the rest is history.

Spring 2008, Youtube. I somehow came across a RO gameplay video and I really loved how difficult it seems to bolt or reload a rifle. When I saw that guy fixing a bayonet I was like: MUST HAVE IT!

As my start in FPS games was Operation Flashpoint, I looked for something tactical and "realistic" and if firing soviet weapons the better... and somebody in the HL2 chat told me about RO:OST... that was in 2008, and several clans and a new game after I am still here...

Eight years ago I found out about RO on the DoD forums. This was around the time DoD went retail and was totally ruined. So I bought UT2003 for RO 1.2 and never looked back.

I saw it in a store and bought it, becuase I thought it would be a singlplayer (didn't see this little hint on the backside of the box "most realistic multyplayer shooter"^^

Well, I found this out after installation and was pretty angry. But then I tried the singleplayer for some time and was surprised about this unique gameplay.

But the bots bored me after some time, so I stopped playing. Some months later I started it again and forced a fried to buy it as well for some online battle ;)

And well, I stayed with it until today.

Saw a post about a realistic WW2 FPS online in 2005 and DL'ed and have been hooked ever since. Been through all phases of ROOST, MN, DH, and now ROHoS. Does anyone remember the map website where you could DL all the RO maps? there was like 30 or 40 maps, some good, some bad.

Bought UT2k3 because UT99 was the best game that ever happened to me. Then, I noticed two WW2 mods for it. One became history, the other, I forgot its name.:D

2006, friend from clan bought a "RO", that no one heard about. His first impression was like "this game sux", but after a week of playing (famous learning curve) he changed his mind and said "you must buy this game, it's totally addictive and amazing". Day after my entire clan bought it and since that day we play mostly Red Orchestra.

On the World Of Tanks forums, someone said the tank mechanisms of RO2 (close to launch then) would be a lot better so he'd switch.

That got me interested enough to buy it at this low price.

Actually I started playing RO with Ostfront a bit before KF came out.
I got hyped up for KF and researched more on TWI and found RO and loved it.

Up until that point I was a major Counter-Strike (1.6 of course) and Quake 3 addict and allways had a pashion for hard as hell games. Heck, I've completed God Hand a good 9 times.
