So, as i posted earlier, last saturday i did the survivalrun in Vollenhove.
I did the 13 kilometres long run, on recreational level.
Basically, what you get is a 4 km run, a 7 km long one, and 13 km.
And i think only the last one has a professional run, meaning one for contest, and one as recreational.
The way i stand though, im nowhere near contest-running fitness lol
Anyways, back to the 13 km run.
It had around 43 obstacles for us to pass, all of wich unfortunately included lots of rope-climbing, wich i absolutely suck at.
I'm pretty strong, but my muscles are trained for a different purpose thanks to judo lol, i cant specify it but it's just different.
So at the end of the run, my forearms were really really dead, i couldnt use them to hold onto anything cause it felt like something would break inside lol.
The route took us through forests, farmland, extremely muddy acres, cityscape, and water. Lots of water.
Being november, you can guess the water is cold, but in canals its even a LOT colder
The running parts i had no trouble with, however all the rope-climbing totally drained me. So during one of the obstacles, i fell out of the rope.
This rope was 5 metres high, so it was a pretty high fall. Unfortunately, i landed on my left leg in such a way so that both my knee and ankle got twisted into unnatural ways, then they were forced to cope with the rest of my body falling ontop of it.
No need to say, it was painfull as ****. Fortunately, after a while, the pain eased away, after just sitting still for a bit. At first though i couldnt even stretch my leg. Some paramedics looked at it, gave me some water but then i was like 'ah **** it, let me run!' so i took off with my team.
They called on ahead to other obstacles though, to inform them of my 'condition'. I skipped a few obstacles, in the end quite a few, as i just couldnt do them anymore.
However, when i reached a certain obstacle over a canal, i couldnt resist.
Basically, there were 3 beams raised up high above the canal, wich you could get to through a rope-net. Once at the beams, you had to drop down by a small rope to a lower beam. From there, there were around 6 ropes hanging down the 3 beams on top, wich you had to use to go to the other side (lets call them vines). The other side consisted of another rope-net, only this one was hanging vertically so you had to climb down it, then go under it and back up on the other side.
Once you were on top, you had to climb on another tight rope, and pull yourself over it to the shore.
I fell down during the 'vines' though. I allmost made it across, but i got stuck on the first 'vine' wich stopped me from reaching the last one, so in the end my arms couldnt hold my weight and i fell down 10 meters into the water.
There were divers at hand, wich immediately jumped in and took me out. Another friend of me also fell down, cause he slipped away while changing vines. That was such a funny moment though, as he hung onto 2 ropes, slowly sliding down, yelling 'NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOoooo *splash*'
Downside to this was that the water was so insanely cold.
I went around 3 meters deep, and it was so cold i instantly got aches in my head, my friend couldnt use his muscles from the cold shock so the divers had to get him out. We got some thermal blankets to keep us warm and keep the wind out, while our friends finished the obstacle, then we realised we were just over just half of the run
These were the most memorable moments to me, so i'll stop at this lol.
In the end i wasnt tired though, i had the energy, but my muscles just refused to function anymore. The day after, i had trouble tying my shoelaces
The last obstacle i could not even climb the rope-net anymore, as i could not hold onto it: my muscles simply refused. So i just stuck my arms through the holes and rested on my armpits to climb up
To this day, i still have 2 enormous bruises on my arms, right on the bicepses lol. And my legs are covered in them, torn open my fingers, and my knee.
Good fun

I'm sure as hell gonna train for the next one though, as i got pretty pissed at the fact i couldnt do all the obstacles. I kept in good spirits, but it just sucks when you have to give up on some of them.
And for the bastards who have read through all of this, a video reportage on the run
