I am not doubting that BF 3 looks impressive. However, When I am looking outside right now and then on the BF 3 screenshot in this thread, I think sth is wrong. BF 3 somehow looks like I am on magic mushrooms...

The atmosphere that almost all maps of RO 2 are creating (except Barracks and Gumrag) is awesome.

Agree I laugh at all the people bragging about BF3 graphics.Sure the game looks good but all the looks come from shader effects bloom and color palette. If it wasn't for PB banning FXAA injector mods during online play.I could make Ro2 look just as bright and colorful as any BF3 screenie. Its simple shader options controlling gamma, bloom, saturation, and sharpness to name a few.

Ro2 was designed to look this way in the same way Fallout 3 had that gritty look to it.When I picture the real fight in Stalingrad I don't picture a tropical paradise look.I see more a gritty war torn atmosphere and the shader effects in Ro2 was set to reflect this.

Poly for poly Ro2 pushes more than BF3 it has almost no clutter anywhere buildings are empty nothing laying on the ground etc.In ro2 the maps are stuffed full of detail from bricks to dead horses and building are fully furnished.

A simple demo showing how shader effects can change a game with the same engine on the same hardware

GTA IV - ENB Series Mod v0077a - HD - YouTube

Like I said if it wasn't for PB banning fxaa mods as hacks I could make Ro2 look as good as Bf3 if not better.I turned a bland GTA4 into a photo realistic game just adjusting shader options...no texture mods just in game engine settings with a FXaa injector mod.
Personally I think Ro2 captures the gritty war atmosphere just fine Stalingrad was not a tropical paradise.

OP here. I got a Phenom II quad-core Deneb clocked at 3.7Ghz.

Still getting 10 frames per second. Funny thing is this site seems to think I can run this game great!

Hey Gunther, is that a known mod you're using in that screenie, or one of your own? Cause that looks sick, and I've been meaning to give GTA another go.

Its a known mod http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/icenhancer-20n---enb-graphic-mod-f12578

I changed some of the settings to my preference in the settings file.It takes pretty good pc to run it tho just be careful and watch your cards temp any thing under a gtx 450-460 and it "could" fry it.Also they say it works much better with a Nvidia card.Just do some googling to see if you can run it.It has some lower end settings too if you lag or overheat.

Its really an awesome tool tho it adds MSAA anti aliasing as well. You just need a non modded install and a 1.4 version of the game it has all the options(works the best) 1.4 is alot more mod friendly. It has a version for 1.7 and the steam version as well but less eye candy.Follow this video to install and if you get crashes after playing a few mins put shadows on medium. It makes the game look 100% better not to mention makes the console guys drool ;)

mod installation walkthrough the vid is for a earlier version but installs the same as the newest ...just make sure you back up a vanilla version of GTA4 before doing anything. If you have any major problems send me a PM

OP here. I had to make a new account because the mods think I'm a troll and everything that I post has to be approved.

I bought a new processor as previously stated and sugested to me; an AMD Phenom II quad-core Deneb with a core frequency of 3.7Ghz stock. I installed it and it works fine. There's only one problem. There is no change in FPS or performance. My computer meets the recommended requirements for the game and canirunit.com seems to think I can have a great experience playing this game. I'm still getting 10 frames per second. I've deleted my config files, verified the game cache, and tweaked every graphics setting possible over and over and nothing changes.

This is a picture.

Your first 8 posts need to be aproved to make sure that you arn't an Ad-bot or such. Basicly, you just made another acount for nothing. :p

No idea whats up with your performance though, are all the parts compatible or getting enough power?

@op: i can't believe you only get 10fps with that setup. what preset does the game choose when you delete the .ini files?
for me it's high, but i chose to set some settings to medium in exchange for ultra textures (not recommended with your card). the graphics settings have little impact (still noticable though) on my performance, since the cpu is the bottleneck. but whatever, i mostly get 45-60 fps on a 64 player server, with some drops when my cpu can't carry the burden.
simply reset your .ini's, uncheck hardware physics, check oneframethreadlag. get rid of some post effects, lower shadow quality a bit and you should be good to go with decent fps.
if that doesn't help then maybe something is wrong with your drivers ("bad" version, settings...) or some bios settings might be f***ed.

This pretty much sums it up. New i5 and i7 processors from Intel are pretty much the ****. Any old dual core CPU can't match those.

I can't disagree with the OP that RO is a little more cpu hungry then it can be...

But a 2.4Ghz Dual core... it's getting old.
Your other more modern games, are also struggling... but I will give it to you that their medium low looks and runs better than ro2.

Buddy of mine had a Core2 E8400 and a GTS450
Runs BF3 ok, Ran RO pretty poorly.

I upgraded him for pnuts to a Phenom965 and an AM2+ mobo
Now it runs perfectly on default high.

You don't need to spend 500$

140$ (Phenom Quad Core, overclocks real easy, possible to turn to 6cores)

50$ (Cheep mobo)

42$ (8gigs of ram)

You can easily go to local sites and get used parts like an AM2+ mobo to save on your ram...

Best bang for your buck ! RO2 approved.
I gave my 965 to my buddy to get the 960T running it at 3.6 quad. (it runs at X6 3.6ghz but using 168Watts) I wont risk the hardware.

No texture mods? You're saying the textures on that car are original GTA IV car textures? That the roads and buildings aren't using the better city textures mod?

Yup during that screen shot there was no texture mods present. The in game textures was greatly improved by increasing the sharpen level and saturation and tone map.The car was a mod but it used in game color palette. It looks so good because the reflections had been greatly increased.I have replaced every car in game by now and they all use the stock color palette which you can alter in the carcol file.Only the decals is replaced but even they use the stock colors.

While im using better city textures now I wasn't during that screen shot. You can easily spot the better cities mod by the "much" darker roads. Also that mod mainly replaced road ,rocks, grass, bridges and water not buildings textures.I know this because I went through the entire gfx file to return beach stones to the original texture they was terrible.

That screenie wasn't the stock ICenhancer mod as well I adjusted many settings to create my own profile to my preference. In fact I took that SS just after installing the mod and that car(challenger and charger is always the first cars I add :D) and was just testing my settings profile.

This is the better city mod with the darker roads with stock textures the roads appear to bright with the injector mod.

go back and read post #73 instead of replying to posts that wont help you anyways. that's the post you should answer. i'd ask gunther for help. your computer is pretty old (besides the new cpu) but it should run the game much better than you are getting it to. you need to figure out what's wrong with it before you waste more money.
