Definitely part of the problem is people not knowing how to change channel or not caring about it. Funny listening to somebody give every team order on public channel:rolleyes:
for about 3 seconds then you just want to scream:eek:

It's not an aversion to teamwork. It's just that the VOIP system is irritating as hell. It adds to the noise and confusion, and it doesn't even help teamwork. It's just one big sloppy open channel which makes it hard to organize anything. Even worse, why listen to these boobs when I can go Rambo and capture the objectives on my own?

I have VOIP turned off in the redorchestra.ini file for these reasons.

If there is one thing I cant stand its when players do no cooperate...

Its hard enough playing stalingradkessel against a good german team, buts its even more IMPOSSIBLE when your going against a good team and you have a bunch of assholes on yours.... you know the ones im talkin about....

You try to be friendly at first.... "ok guys lets do this... sappers do your job, everyone else to warehouse"

Stupid enough you have people as sapers doing NOTHING!, people totally avoiding warehouse and going left where they get mowed down by MGs and snipers.... and then its just you in warehouse with the entire german team.... But of coarse being that you know your TOTALLY SCREWED.... you call for help over VOIP.... you try dodging and diving... avoiding mass waves of german grenades being thrown at you, peeking out with a bolt or SVT you take a german out... YOUR EXPOSED!!! You have half the germans flanking you, and the other half rushing ur sorry ass...... and before you sqeeze off the next shot... raped by MP40s......

And if its not bad enough you call out to your team again! "Guys come on I cant do this alone I need some help here!!!"

By this point they have positioned themselves all around warhouse.. an MG42 inside.... SMGS exit camping waiting for any poor sucker to enter.... and Bolts providing support from behind...

So you make another attempt to rush in warehouse and still nothing... you just get knocked over like a tree.....

By this point your furiated.... the damn sappers have blown nothing.... and now you really start to sound pissed over VOIP saying... "GUYS WTF ARE YOU DOING! F*CKING HELP ME HERE!! WE NEED TO TAKE WAREHOUSE AND SAPPERS DO YOUR F*CKING JOB!!!!!!"

and then over VOIP you here some assholes going "dude shut up... play the game"

Do you see the problem here........?

Seeing as you have it turned off, I doubt you know what generally goes on over VOIP. I only encounter spam in really poorly run servers.

I played plenty of hours with VOIP on before I figured out how to turn it off, so I know what goes on. Spam is a problem, but a small one. The big problem is that people have no idea how to speak clearly, not overdrive the mic, and say what they need to say logically and concisely. I swear, RO players are the biggest bunch of illiterate retards there is (although, this may apply to internet gamers in general). Since no one can claim to be in charge, no one can tell anyone else what to do with authority. Calling for help does no good because players all want to just keep doing what they're doing.

In essence, VOIP doesn't work because it's just one minor tool when so many others are needed. There needs to be squad and fire team organization. We need to have leaders that have earned their right to lead a team and that other players look up to. Then we can talk about how to make VOIP work right.

You can mute individuals very easily, thats what I do if need be.

I guess I just dont see the point in prohibiting yourself from engaging in actual teamplay by muting everyone. But I guess we have experienced different circumstances.

You can also use the map grid to give 'rough' coordinates, or if possible, use the names on the objective map: 'mg42 about 50 yards due east of bunker 1'. Also use the compass, as it is universal and not dependent on the direction your facing like left or right is.

imo, usage of grid is limited... it is too slow to find where the spot is (for both players) but ofcourse when you have time than it is good (for tank maps ie).
Of course the best way is to have name for every possible thing on map and than you will prevent any confusion... for example on Baksan our team uses about 35 spot names on that map (excluding objective names)... and this is best way how to describe some situation&position

You are going to be making friends quickly. 31 posts and you are already calling fellow players Neanderthals and retards.

Personally, I do find most people using the mic to be rambling. They usually lack any ability to give pertinent information. "There's a machine gun on the left" is usually not very useful information. Then you have the guys who "know it all" and get pissed when no one listens to them "barking orders" to everyone. Then you have the whiner, who starts whining because you are not listening to HIM. Then you also realize that many people don't have microphones hooked up, that can be an issue as well.

LOL... I think Harry just described me to a tee! And I see him on the servers all the time... :p

Sorry man. Sometimes I get caught up in the game. Go ahead and mute me if I annoy you.

Lack of Teamwork

Lack of Teamwork

Now ive been playing RO:OST since release and its a damn fine game and i really do enjoy it, but there one thing that really bugs me lately.

Teamwork! It seems that lately for some reason there seems to be no teamwork what so ever...ive been on a few servers the past few days, and although you do get teamwork sometimes, its very rare...and its becoming that annoying that im beginning to get pissed with the game at times.

I can see this becoming a major issue after the free trial is launched tomorrow, yeah i know people got to feel there way into the game, but the people who are playing now must surely realise that the whole point of the maps is to cap the required points and not just go glory hunting and try and rake up as many kills as possible.

Like whats the point of me being the Squad leader and dropping smoke grenades or arty on objective points if nearly everyone else runs around like headless chickens.

Theres a couple of exceptions to this rule and thats only really on 2 really good servers i play on, but there's never anyone on them till the evenings.

Anyway sorry for ranting..i truly love this game so much, but please people play as a team, its so much better and satisfying when u win a map and u have worked well.

There is almost never any teamwork in a public game between strangers, on ANY online FPS. You need to join a clan.

Totally agree. What little teamwork that does exist seems to be disappearing. One culprit for sure is the use of communications other than what's provided in the game. I know the in-game stuff gets flooded, but it will eventually work itself out. ****-it was the early us of the in-game voip that sold me on RO.

I try to give really succinct reports...like on Konigsplatz,

"Hostiles at grid D5! With T34 support!"

People say I sound like a robot rattling off sitreps like that, but oddly enough, I often manage to turn teams around from abject defeat to "oops we steamrollered the other team".

My fondest memory was winning as Soviets on Konigsplatz with 7 people against a team of 12. (Four of our guys were tankers...that probably helped a lot.)

More information is always better than none but it has to be quality info. "guy behind the tree" doesnt help. As for tank team chatter this will all go away when the local channel works reliably. I have to use the team channel occasionally when it is not working.

Well yesterday I encountered a bloke who had a microphone, and he specifically put a tag on his name "[Solo_Tanker]". This guy had enough gall to take the Tiger I from BlackDayJuly, and he kept yelling at the team (who were telling him to team tank with it) that he was "better than everyone else when he tanked alone". So yeah, there you have it. An ass who thought he was better than everyone else by going Rambo.

Sometimes it's hard to do teamwork, or get it started, when there are so many poeple on VOIP shouting (and in dif languages) that no-one can be heard at all..

It isn't like team-tanking gives you a massive advantage. Personal skill outweighs team taking in terms of tanking at the moment, due to game mechanics. As I've said, most of the time fighting an enemy who is team-tanking just means that I get two kills instead of one.

I'd rather not risk having some idiot drive a Tiger around when I could do it myself with only a slight penalty.

I have put [TT.d] to show guys that I am willing to team up in a tank and drive. I also like to jump in sometimes to get a ride as the tank mg until there is a point I can jump out. In close city work, the mg on tank is actually helpful sometimes. The next thing which I have seen, mainly with guys who play the germans, guys will team up two or more tanks as a pack, and they are deadly. For some reason in Orel, guys who play the Russians prefer to run around like chickens for the most part.

I am looking at clans and would like to join one, just taking the time to read their sites.
