"Team wound -1" appearing out of nowhere

I get this message quite often in the top right corner and I honestly have no idea why most of the time.

Sometimes I can be a whole minute without firing a single shot or throwing a grenade, and I will see the red message about team wounding.

It seems like there either an insane delay between the accident and when it appears on screen or it's some bug that punishes the wrong player for team wounding.

It happens whenever a friendly you wounded, even slightly, dies, even if that happened a while ago. It probably happens mostly at fringes of grenade blasts.

i have also seen it award me kills i didnt do, like a nade kill even though i havent thrown a grenade.

i had it happen to me tonight running out of spawn. i hadn't shot anyone or anything in two or three spawns, and had not thrown any grenades. it was kinda weird, but i did notice it.

I believe it is similar to how you'll shoot an enemy and he runs off, then a few minutes later they're killed by someone else on your team and you get a kill assist +1 on the screen.

When you hit a team mate and they're wounded.... when an enemy eventually takes them out, you'll get a -1 for an "Assist" for the enemy.
