I'm curious how this will be implemented.

The T-34 modeled in ROHOS had one person as gunner/commander, while the Panzer IV had a dedicated gunner and a dedicated commander.

Does that mean up to 4 slots will be available in the Panzer IV, compared to the T-34's 3, at least when team tanking? (not counting loader)?

Will that give the realistic advantage to the Panzer IV crew to have a dedicated commander who isn't "multitasking" as gunner?

So if the T-34's commander/gunner gets shot, the player as driver has to go back from the driver's seat to man the gun, while if the commander gets shot in the Panzer IV, the gunner can take over.

Actually, his post didn't specify it was both sides. He just mentioned it for that tank, which happened to be a Panzer IV.

Considering the Amount of Detail work which went into the PzIV we have already seen and knowing that Wilsonam got "some" Sources about Russian Tanks. I'd assume that there will be a different Crew Structure for the T34/76.

Yeah, except for the unbuttoned driver position in the Stug / Panzer III. No way you could drive with the pedals on your belly.

I can see why TWI might want to keep the number of crew on both tanks the same for simplicity's sake, seeing as how they are trying to make the game more accessible. Having a gunner and commander for the T34 may not be historically accurate, but it won't break the game either.

However, there is the problem of actually fitting three people into the T34's turret. Considering that tank interiors and crewmen will be fully modeled, I don't think they will be able to pull a StuG/PIII driver's hatch trick on us this time.

I really hope they'll make all crew slots that were there historically playable in game (except maybe for loader). Then people could use a server setting if they want to make it more arcade and merge the cmdr/gunner into one.

I hope they keep it historical accurate. But on a side note, i remember reading somewhere that the gunner/commander seat didn't move with the turret and because of that they didn't traverse the turret much. It could be done but they just hated it.

The gunner/commander seat was fixed on the turret ring, so it did move with the turret. But since T-34 (any model) did not have turret basket, traversing turret was not nearly as pleasant, as in those German tanks which had turret baskets.

Later the problem with the missing turret basket grew even more, since in T-34/85 the loader had to stand/crouch on the floor and move along with the turret when it was traversed. I

Forgot to follow up. Did we ever get an answer on this?

yeah, this is my understanding of the crewable positions:

  • 3 humans can occupy a tank (1 AI will always be the loader)
  • humans can crew the mg, driver, gunner/commander position.
Ramm kept mentioning something like tanks that have commander's positions can have those spots crewed seperate from gunner. but the thing is that if only 3 humans can be in a tank and a tank has a seperate commander spot (meaning 5 crew positions), what i am guessing is that there would be a 2nd AI to be the "gunner" while the human is spotting in the commander position. if there is a "warm body" in a position (an AI body) then switching to that position will be instantaneous so switching back and forth between gunner/commander would be just like it is right now.

it'd be great to just see some tank interior through actual gameplay so we can really know for sure. ;)

Tanks for the clarification.

Interview just showed that when everyone else in your tank dies, you do switch to every position.

So in the Panzer IV, you now have to switch from gunner to commander.

I also noticed the loader wasn't killed, so might not be killable.
