Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but one thing I'd like to see changed in the new RO in relation to ammo and weapons drops/pickups is for the dropped items to be spread out a bit more then they currently are.
There are many times when I want to pick up someone's dropped weapon and ammo, only to be stuck toggling between my old weapon and the new weapon, with the ammo packs being placed almost directly under both, leaving me with one weapon or the other and no ammo for either.
And I'd love to drop my weapon/ammo in one spot to pickup the other in a different location like back in the mod days, but I can't drop something unless I'm picking something up in return, thus swapping items in the exact same location..... or did I bind yet another additional key for the same action already in the game elsewhere in controls and there's a different drop key existing?
Sure the old method of dropping weapons (ie dropping your weapon followed by every clip or round dropping in their own spots) was a tad time consuming trying to collect everything on the ground for one item compared to just the weapon and ammo pouch in Ost, but at least you didn't have this issue in the game of playing patty cake with dropped items and then ending up with just a weapon with whatever ammo is left in it.
Then again, the ammo caches around maps do help quell this issue.... so long as you can make it to one before you're killed.
Back off my tangent a bit, a quick animation of your arms flying ahead of you with the weapon being dropped sounds easy enough to do, while a pickup animation would require a leaning down motion with arm reaching out..... and you'd also have to compensate for the angle the weapon is on the ground compared to your body/arm reaching out, or it'd look kinda silly with a basic static animation of your hand moving through the item being picked up in an angle that doesn't suit.
Which then begs the question, is it worth all the work to get it right, or would people be happy with just a basic hand grab animation, regardless of how flawed/unrealistic is was?
