Surrounded Escape

I remember the Mod for UT2004 that a single grenade tossed below your feet would kill you, but in the retail i am wondering about the grenade damage. Well here is the tactic i found out.
Easy escape when you get surrounded, just toss a grenade below your feet and start heeling yourself, the damage wouldnt take much effect somehow and you rather find yourself standing on the crowds heads or just been escape, and so you can continue running and healing yourself, i think its hilarious, but still pretty usefull

thats not true, it also works on normal and hard, havent tried on suicidal though, but it def. works in normal and hard aswell

Good question, i havent figured out the actual technique yet, but i think you need full armor and start healing as soon as you drop the nade or the damage takes effect.

Hard and Suicidal grenades kill you if they are within 5 feet of you.

Beginner nades won't kill you but im not sure about normal, possibly not though.

if you are a level 4 or 5 firebug yours nade don't hurt you at all.

No. When I self nade to drop chainsaws I have to drop two(2) nades beneath my feet, with 0 armor, to kill; 1 nade just doesn't cut it. Suicidal btw

I just tested and it does work for normal (with the meds). I killed myself on hard is I wasn't medic with full armor or berserker.

My nades also set me on fire, and while I take very little damage from it in a near death situation it could kill me.

This works much better if a teammate throws the nade. (No ff) Obviously, this requires much more coordination but I'm sure many teammates are grateful for me throwing a nade at their feet. Besides; consider the fact that when surrounded, you're probably going to be near low health anyway.

derivation of this, if you throw a grenade at your feet while running with knife out, it blows up minimally damagin you, and killing whoever was chasin you.

Sorry i'm a bit confused.

This thread basically seems to be saying that in order to escape being surrounded you have to throw a grenade at your feet, which will only not kill you if you are infact, not in danger in the first frigging place.

Wtf are you on about. No 2 people can even decide if grenades kill you or not on the higher difficulties.

also, if you truly are surrounded, doesn't that mean you are also taking hits from behind? meaning you'll be take a fair amount of damage already, and the nade will probably kill you rather than be your saving grace.

Get serious here, nading yourself to oblivion isn't a viable escape...90% of the time, you'll not have the health for it. In normal, anyone but a full-armor, nearly full-health medic or berserker will die from a self-nade (Except Firebugs' fire-nades!).

There are far more simple yet essential tactics to know...

When surrounded, first look for the weakest side of the surround to break...and break it...for example, if you have a few clots on one side and a skrake on the other side, you can gun down the clots as you run over them to get away...

A big part of what gets people surrounded is the "Always get away" mentality. It's not a good one to have. It's often far better to gun down and walk over a few weaklings in your path than let yourself get pushed into a potential surround...
