The Elitist Prick Club
The only time I ever see the white suppression thing on my screen is half a second before I see I've been killed.
Supression is excellent. Try popping up firing over some sandbags when some arty is nearby, or firing through a doorway when an MG is peppering the wall behind you with fire.

Guns, especially SMGs (and I know this has been flogged to death already) are way too accurate at sub 100 meter distances.
While this may be 'realistic', it doesn't work in RO2.
Their accuracy should be reduced by about 40% (they'll still be lethal).
Thus, suppression is a game mechanic that can just as well be removed.

It obviously does "work"...there is nothing wrong with the current implementation of SMG's.

They shouldn't just be limited to killing people close enough to throw a stick at, MP40s and PPSHs had effective ranges of 100m. The guns in the game are designed to behave in the same manner as they did in reality, gameplay be-damned (or at least that was a goal). No one wants the SMG's to act like the SMG from HL2...

The god damn talking, it's got me killed literally 2 dozen times now.
We're trying to play stealthily me and my friend, then I randomly shout EVERY 7 SECONDS A GERMAN DIES IN STALINGRAD, TICK TOCK FRITZ, TICK TOCK!

While these are funny, and the whole sound system in game is fantastic (hearing people walking in buildings etc), this is completely retarded in its implementation.
Maybe in a heated firefight there'd be some shouting, but just randomly when we're trying some tactical gameplay?
Annoying as hell.
This should be a mechanic of the relaxed realism servers, please say this isn't going on realism servers - or they simply don't deserve the name.

Have you turned the chatter frequency to "critical only"? I haven't been found and killed because of my chatter since setting it to this...

300m? Really...? The longest range kill I've managed is just under 250 - and that person was barely visible...what map even has a 300m engagement range/visibility?

You can't see someone at 150 meters? Do you even understand how close that actually is? The typical engagement ranges nowadays outside of urban combat are like 200+ and often more than that and this is done without any sort of magnification.

Anyway the point is the SMG makes the bolt-action obsolete given that it's significantly superior in the vast majority of encounters. It really may not be a problem with the gun itself. I feel the game exaggerates what urban combat is. Sure a lot of people are going to be running through buildings encountering enemies down the hallway but there's also that overlook and gap distance that this game absolutely lacks in most maps. Just look at the bridge in Apartments, it's like 10 m long, they could easily have had a bridge 10x that length and it would give rifleman a purpose besides just being a weak placeholder for people that didn't get the spot for all around superior classes.

100% agree with everything the OP says.

RO has turned into a CQB run-n-gun game. Mostly because everyone (even elite riflemen) are entitled to a SMG. If I recall correctly FallenFighters has about 13 SMG slots per side.

It still yells things I don't want it to yell, almost everyone agrees this is a bad/annoying thing.

Why can't it be turned off is my question for the devs.
At LEAST in realism mode.

You do realize that these maps are of actual places, don't you?

lol no it isn't. nobody bothers to engage with precision at over 150-200 yards/meters without magnification (i.e., using just iron sights). In part because it's likely if someone is engaging you from that distance, they are using optics, even if it's just a 4x optic, which gives them a significant advantage.

I agree the suppression system is near pointless.

It should really increase your sway, make you walk/run slower (so you dont just run out at shoot the guy trying to flank you), and perhaps even cause a slight blackout along the edge of the screen.

The barrel stayed pretty much in the same place, it only kicked back into her shoulder a little bit. The mp40 was and is a very controllable gun even when firing fully automatic.

Right, now lets see the groupings of those shots. I highly doubt it was very accurate.

recoil in game is fine; effective ranges are not. I consistently kill people 150+ m with the mp40 when its effective range is 100m

i think you should wait for a 'rifles only' mod.

rifles are pretty boring unless you're the type who enjoys hiding somewhere outside the cap, aiming towards the cap i.e. not doing anything useful 95% of the time.

Why would I want to play that? I have no problems with smgs, infact I like using it sometimes. It's just that it feels really historicly inaccurate with so many smgs and its more fun if more people had to master the rifles instead of every other just running around spraying.

No, rifles are fun even if you assault with them, I always play on the offensive even if I defend (attacking the enemy where they think they can just run trough towards the battle). The rifle can be used in close quarters even though the smg ofcourse dominates there but it dosent mean that you cant bash a few heads in with the riflebutt.

Apartments is not a real place.

Apartments is a highly modified version of Danzig (RO1 map), which is in Poland.

Holy ****.. I haven't thought about it, but now I recognize the whole map from RO1! :D

This was what i want to know more about.
Is it changing if I say things or not, or is it changing if i can hear things said or not.

It would be odd no matter what.

To have a setting that is basically the "be stealthy" or not setting is odd. i mean would you want to not be stealthy ever?
An audio option for my system that makes me stealthier on other peoples systems? that's a game changer for sure.

So i figured this was an environmental sound effect setting that has no real game play changing effects.

But even as a personal environmental setting it would be a game changer again if it was going to stop playing the enemy banter that should give away their position to me. If they are just around the corner regardless of what is being said that would count as "critical/important" to me.

So i really hope they make it clear what this setting is for and how/if it will change the game play for you and other players.

The sheer number of SMG's, semi autos and machine guns.
They should make up 10-20% of a team, presently they make up about 50-60% of the team.
I quit reading right there, because if you're that bad at math I don't know how anything you're saying can be correct. 6 SMGs and 3 Elite Rifles, the most I've seen on any map, in a 32 man team =/= 50 to 60%. Unless you're playing on 24 man servers exclusively and they're all SMG/semi-auto love fests...you're just ranting.

Other gripes :-

I don't need to explain why this is silly.

Please don't turn this into a historical debate, this is purely about gameplay.

Someones angry.

Completely disagree. Too many times have I been in a building trying to pick off enemies with my rifle when some a-hole on a machine gun decides to light up my window. It's damn near impossible to do anything at that point and the easiest solution is to give up your spot and find somewhere else.

Suppression works.

It's a small and very cute korean girl, probably shooting the MP40 for the very first time in her life. You sir, need a tickle-me button. :D

RO has always been about finding a balance between realism and gameplay. Bandaging? Recon Planes? Radars? No effect from wounds? Hold breath for steady aim after sprinting? Semi autos and SMG's everywhere, hardly any bolts?

Oh but the MP40 is uber realism, screw gameplay

Thats odd, whenever it happens to me, I step aside, let the suppression wear off, which takes about a second. I take a sidestep, put on my ironsight, and kill the mger shooting at me with a single shot.

I have had this, or comparable cases many times.

Supression doesn't do all that much.

could suppression randomize where your gun starts out and have it move towards the center of the screen when you aim down the sites? I.E. rather than aiming down the sites with the gun centered it would be randomly off the center and move towards the center of the screen at a rate that is inversely proportional to how suppressed you are.

So if you are really stressed, you can't really pop up at all or your accuracy will be very very bad.

If you aren't stressed at all, your gun starts out in the center of the screen

if you are lightly stressed the gun will start out slightly off from the center of the screen and quickly fix itself to the center of the screen

Also, stress should heal at a rate that is proportionate to how stressed you are. You should quickly go from 100% suppressed to 50% suppressed but slowly go from 10% suppressed to 0% suppressed
