So, having a little trouble pulling off some Support tricks. As far as I'm aware, it's possible for a level 6 Support Specialist to kill a 6-man HoE Fleshpound or Scrake on his own, yes? Now, am I misinformed, or do I just suck too bad to do this? I've been messing around on the test map trying both, and failing at both.

Fleshpound is grenade to the feet, HSG alt-fire, two more grenades, then HSG alt-fire when it charges you, right? I'm trying that and just getting killed. Is there more to the strategy, am I doing it wrong, what?

Scrake I can sort of do... if I use the Katana. I can't stun Scrakes with the Axe. How do you do it? Do you have to hit them in the head? Use alt-fire? Normal fire? That said, if I do use the Katana to stun them, I still mess it up, though I think that's cause it's hard to aim with the Christmas Zeds.

I'm also interested in how one goes about stunning a scrake and the mechanics behind it.

To stun a scrake you need to deal 667 dmg in one hit, base dmg of an axe is 205, HS multiplier is 1.25, there's no way that its possible to stun a scrake with a support according to the data.

Can someone shed some light as to how class other than lvl 5/6 zerkers are able to stun scrakes?

I was more hoping for advice/videos showing how it's done, but I guess some in-game help wouldn't go astray. My Steam is Craftyskater901.

Well you couldn't learn from anyone better mate, Fang is like the most recognised player in KF, he's practically a celebrity... although he won't admit it himself. :)

I've laughed my arse off plenty of times when I've been playing with him and someone has joined the server and been totally geeking out spouting "OMG, are you 2Fangz!? Dude your videos are awesome!".

If you want to see his credentials: -

I'm yet to figure out a way for a Firebug to kill a 6-man HoE Fleshpound solo (without pipes), but I have got it kind of licked for a Scrake, and watching this video gave me the insight to work it out :)

OMG... I just realised I'm totally fanboying him too! :D

Thing is... Even if that is true, my goal is to help people enjoy the game more.

I never say "I'm popular", or claim that "I'm the best player". If people want too think that, they can go ahead and think so. But, I'm glad there are people like you that respect what I do and help share what I have to offer people.

Thanks J!

Edit: What's that saying? "With fame comes a price".

A bit off topic (and hiya Jester and Fang :D), but I managed to kill a FP as a Firebug in 6-man HoE yesterday (without pipes). Basically kited to the best of my ability, and kept breaking LoS while semi-auto mac10-ing it. The only problem is that A) it took WAY too freaking long and B) it was the last zed, so I'm not sure that the HP reducing effect of it being one of the last zeds took effect.

Anyone who genuinely believes that Fang is the best player literally has no idea about the game at all. He's not even among the best, let alone THE best. A play style that revolves around exploiting AI bugs and balance issues has nothing to do with skill.

Of course, have you seen Candlejack's axe man vid on HoE?

Well, there is something to be said for pursuing ruthless efficiency. :) Within the framework of a PvE game, players are generally going to gravitate towards strategies that offer the maximum damage or survivability with the minimum risk possible.

Fang's not making any crazy boasts, so I'd say it's more the perception of other people. Players see a video of one person taking down a fleshpound by themselves and think it's really neat. At one point or another we've all been in normal or hard games when an FP massacres the whole team, so I think that adds to the awe.

Balances and fixes of any kind will disrupt popular weapons and/ or tactics, but players will just find another way to do the same thing. It might take a couple seconds longer or use more ammunition, but the end result will be the same.

It's actually pretty funny, because the "tricks" that are becoming popular now, have been around since the beginning. They just weren't very well known back in those days, so now people are thinking "oh wow, these are new and awesome", but they've really been able to be done all along.

I think what the big thing is that more of the general community has seen and attempted these tricks lately.

It's really not hard to come up with new combos to kill FPs and scrakes. Yes, FPs are harder to come up with, but scrakes is fairly easy.

Have a level 0 perk of any class? Ok, take an Axe, a LAR, and dual magnums. Shoot the scrake 8 times with LAR (do 4 headshots and kite it around a bit to let the damage drop down some) then do 4 more LAR headshots, axe alt fire to the head, then dual magnum spam to the face. If done right, you won't take much damage at all and it will kill the scrake, with a level 0 perk on 6 man Hell on Earth. It's really not hard.

Exactly.

Then you get people who b*tch and complain that this is our fault, when the game has had this all along. It's not like it doesn't make the game any less co-op... Teamwork, communication, and experience is still a big factor in a win or lose.

I used to play on the JP servers with 250 ping when I was drunk at 3am and learned all of the tricks there way before they became popular (they seem to be the real innovators in KF, or at least were about a year ago :p). Problem is I wasn't sober enough to realize what was happening and how to actually do it at the time. :(

Aye tis a fair point to be sure...

A deep understanding of AI behaviour, perk roles, weapon limitations and fierce accuracy are the things that makes players great, and most of the people on this forum seem to have those.

Since I own my own server I've played with pick up groups a hell of alot more than I've played with friends, and tbh it's shocking to see how hard the game is in PUG groups. Most of the time you only pass the round by 1 Zerker kiting the stuffing out of everything. Everyone spawns with bugger all money, cycle repeats. However when you hook up with people from the forum suddenly its a doddle. I've never had as much fun (or success) as when playing with any one of: -
- Fang
- SMIFF
- Entangler
- 9_6
- NutterButter
- Olivier
- Gibby
- Baron Von Fistwagon
- HateMe?
- Sammers
- No Glory
- DukeVonBathrobe
- Rainy Day Kid
- mamoo
- Timur
- Deafmute

The list goes on and on, most other players I haven't mentioned I've either never played with or not worked with more than 1 or 2 times. However just the fact 1 other player knows what they are doing makes my job a million times easier.

And... I lost my point in this... in the end I think it just became a shameless attempt for free upvotes xD

Oh yeah! So back to the point, Fang is definately a great player to play with. The reason he knows all these tricks is because the guy spends LOADS of time playing KF and figuring out how everything works, alot of the time he doesn't use the tricks he finds out, because he doesn't have to. He plays a class as he is meant to, and thats means other players do their roles as they should too. Thats all anyone can ask :)

you realize this thread is almost a year old now right?

i wouldn't be surprised if a whole lot of those people no longer play KF, and if so, most likely don't play on a regular basis. i know Fang has left the game twice since those posts.

oh yeah...forgot about that 'date' thing on posts, my fault. Well that's somewhat disappointing/depressing, but oh well. Thanks for the tidbit, at least you're still around distributing info and advice.

As long as this thread is on the first page, might as well add devante, scary_ghost, and darkfalz to that list; likely the three greatest players in KF (in that order).
