If you have TL;DR syndrome, just click on the links, they're sufficient on their own.

I managed to find a piece of software that compiles a list of some of my suggestions for HoS and some of the suggestions found on this forum, along with features confirmed for HoS.

I merely wish to illustrate to you what exactly these features are like in operation.

I want to make clear that the purpose of this thread is not to promote this mod. Notably, it is based on Source, which means its draw distances suck. Its global player counts are dismally low. It also has some of the clunkiest controls this side of the Ardennes. Plus, they totally copied Red Orchestra  But some of you may find this interesting and encouraging.

It has customizable player models and loadouts (roles are chosen earlier):

It has vaulting and a curious prone dive animation I submit for your consideration.

It has something I really desire, which is the ability to manually eject a single cartridge at a time from the Kar98k by working the bolt action. When five rounds (or cases) have been ejected, it reloads. Interestingly, reload, the manual bolt action (after firing), and ejecting a cartridge by working the bolt are all mapped to the same button, R (standard reload button), and thus its function is based on context.

Also, I've included a demonstration of the sight modes. HoS notably features FoV zoom. It also features free aim in sight mode. I think the implementation of both of these features in the footage I'm about to show you is the happy middle ground that reconciles some of the complaints heard on this subforum with the ideas of the developers.

There are three sight modes. One is from the hip. This mode has free aim. From this mode you can transition to either iron sight mode or free sight mode. Free sight mode looks down the sights, but with free aim. There is no FoV zoom. Iron sight mode has a locked sight picture and thus no free aim. However, there is FoV zoom. All modes have weapon sway which varies with sprint fatigue and positioning (i.e. crouch has less sway than standing), all good stuff we have in Ost Front.

Now this is really wild IMO. The game has no HUD (except for a funny FPS/ping counter). For a map, you have to fold out an actual map. For an indication of player inventory, you must hold "B" (for backpack), which shows you the number of mags/grenades you have.

[When you pull out an stg-39, you only hold it. When you press M1, it unscrews the nade cap. Once you do this you have to use it. Then M1 pulls the pin, thus priming the grenade and puts you into a throw anim with free aim.] All of [this] is awesome and I deh-MAHND it for HoS.

And it has bipod rotate with MGs  (4:45)

YouTube - Resistance and Liberation Gameplay --HD-- ...

How many of these features appeal to you? How does the execution of these features in this mod strike you? Do you think that HoS should try and use these features and their implementation in HoS?

- RO:HOS got 3 viewing modes as well you get the big zoom when you press the breathing button. And the rest stays similar as currently (I like that better than the cycle system in R&L). Personally I hope that in ROHOS someone can always get the fov zoom, including when not in iron-sight, as a human can see things on a 1:1 scale at all times and not only when looking through iron sights.

- It has already been confirmed that MG's in ROHOS will pivot around their bi-pod.

- Prone diving and vaulting are things in ROHOS as well.

- RO:HOS will pretty much have no visual hud either unless the user wants visual feedback on things. For instance In reality you just know you're out of breath, in game you don't so you either need sound as a cue, but if people prefer a visual bar then I say let them have it (unless indeed something like looking in a rucksack can be done instead). All HUD elements of ROHOS can most likely just like ROOST be completely disabled.

Personally I absolutely hate the free aim system in R&L as well, I prefer it similar to the roost system more, where basically your gun moves at a different speed than your sight. I hate it in R&L that you pretty much must move your gun a while before your sight seems to start moving at all.

The real world interactions of R&L are nice (like unfolding the map, and looking into the ammo pouches) and would be nice to see. And could replace some of the hud elements in a nice way.

Customization, can be fun but it must be limited as the majority of the soldiers within a squad or platoon for the biggest part looked for the biggest part the same. (so it should pretty much be choosing say the type of field grey or khaki, and some other small additions, so that armies will still look like armies and not a bunch of partizan's.

I like the minimal hud. I've always been of the opinion that the fewer things on the hud, the better. Like in Ostfront: you don't have an ammo counter, but you are told if the mag is heavy or light etc.

The map thing is cool too; the animation to take it out is really slick. I miss the old days where you had to actually read the map -- no location arrow or anything.

Having to manually uncap the stick grenade seems a bit much though. What is gained by making the player do that?

The FPS/Ping Graph isn't part of the mod's HUD, btw, that is part of the source engine. You can call it up in any source game from the console.
