I'd like to add to this that the Squad leader should never get 'cool' guns , ie the prototypes. he is far too valuable then to have somone taking him just to get a mkb.

They need to reduce the number of assault classes available (because of the increase of squad leaders with SMGS) and definitely restrict access for semiautomatics and the MKB to the elite riflemen class. Now bolt actions are in the extreme minority and the gameplay suffers for it.

The intensity of CQB bolt action fights is gone and the whack-a-mole camp gameplay is even worse. The assaulting team threw some smokes? Who gives a ****, you've all got semi-autos and fully automatics on 3/4 of the players just spray and pray and mow everything down.

I feel like I'm playing Counter-strike now.

I hate the CoD hating response to comments as much as anyone, but sometimes they are valid such as in this case. This game isn't about using whatever weapon you want. Its about using weapons that the army you are playing as used, and in realistic quantities. Ostfront had this down pat. Remember kaukasus? That map had what, one SMG for the Germans? There was 1 or 2 MG slots and everyone else used the K98. Now on the one map, one that I hated I forget what it was called...it was an add-on set in a forest...the Russians had a seemingly unlimited number of SMGs. That was because it was appropriate for the type of force the Russians were, an SMG battalion.

My point is, in cases like kaukasus when you got to use the commander class and use the MP40 it felt special. And it wasn't just a gameplay element, it was based on authenticity. In this game there is a ridiculously high amount of SMGs and, now, assault rifles being used. I can't help but think this is to draw in (gag) the call of duty crowd, to give them a better chance to use the cool weapons. Believe me I despise the fact I'm using that stupid strawman argument but its also seemingly the case unfortunately. Not only is the assault weapon spam a departure from RO's roots, its also more than a bit ridiculous: the dad gum weapons are prototypes! They are basically combat trial weapons. Then it makes me ask the question why we don't have the MG42 trial weapons that the Germans had, if we have the mkb and AVT, but that is going off subject a little bit..

It also makes me wonder why this game has this problem in the first place. There was a two week DDE beta. Why weren't these weapons put in then, and then this crap sorted out already? The fact TWI made Ostfront begs the question as to why we would ever have this issue in the first place...

Being one of the individuals who pre-ordered the DDE, I have to agree that the MKb and AVT need to be hero weapons. They are supposed to be rare, and while veteran status isn't "easy" to get with all the necessary classes, the weapons are still in a position to be spammed because eventually everyone is going to hit veteran.

Limiting the MKb and AVT (maybe even the SVT and G41 snipers) to Hero status adds a certain coolness factor to them that no other weapon in the game would have.

I thought it was supposed to work like this: Hit hero rank with class X > receive field promotion at random or for topping the scoreboard > class X's hero weapon becomes available. I think it would work better that way.

Hero - MKb/AVT/Semi snipers

EDIT: just want to point out that I'm not raging over this feature. I'm glad TW is working on fixing the game; I just wanted to get my opinion on the subject out there before another lock.

This is the best suggestion here. These weapons MUST be hero weapons and therefore be rare. Not even an elite assault class, they should be rarely seen.

This was a very cheap solution to DDE unlocks problem TWI. What were you thinking?

The real issue is that there are too many classes with the MKb 42.

On a 32 vs 32 server there are;

6 Assault
4 Squad Leaders
1 Commander

That's a total of 11 MKb 42s, plus maybe 5-10 people who pick up dropped MKb 42s.

IMHO, Squad Leaders and Commanders shouldn't get the MKb 42 AT ALL.

MKb 42s should be given to elite riflemen or equivalent (cap'd at 3 persons or less)

Who knew everyone would buy the Digital Deluxe edition??

What to do? These weapons should be VERY rare. 1 person on a team with them. Now they are the norm. THis sucks. It's hard to get emersed in the game now. It was already bad with the insane amounts of MP40s. This is 10 times worse. :(

As some others have said, maybe (I hope I hope) that it is some sort of bug that lets so many players choose these weapons all at once. The more I think about it, the more it annoys me.

Still, I think the heart of the game has a lot of promise. Prior to the latest patch and the mass release of those silly unlocks, I found that I could have a really good time if I found a server that was using mostly realism settings, no HUD, no mini-map etc. I actually found it as or more rewarding than ROOST.

Now, I'm sure I could still have a good time, but hopefully I won't have to spend half an hour sorting thru settings and servers that end up turning the weapons off. Unfortunately the browser still needs tweaking, and then that still won't be any indication on whether those silly weapons will be in the game. There has got to be a better way at some point that will help those of us find and play on servers that don't have all this silly BS on them.

Oh well, I won't give up and will try to find some decent servers this morning and on the weekend where these weapons are restricted. I also couldn't care less about all this stat BS.

I'm really wondering if it is a bug that needs to be fixed and here is why.

For some reason I am able to select the Mkb and I have done almost nothing with the assault class ever nor did I buy any special deluxe edition that would entitle me to have it as an unlock.

Oh please please let it be a bug....

Hmm, what to do.

I think the number of any clas should be a server side option. If you want realism, the server admin should be aforded the option to set 1 Mkb, Avt, PPs, or Mp40 per side at any given time , and also be allowed to make dead drops dissapear immediately (already have witnessed one group exploiting this so all had a Mkb). Conversely if the server was to be a free for all , which is fine also, the server admins should be able to adjust the numbers of the "rare" guns upward as well.

Given the options for a ranked server, many can bring you the game type you want.

new to RO myself but even i went wtf when i saw that 3 different clases could use these things

first i thought it was gona be elite rifle wep only

then i looked it upp and saw it was gona be assult and went ok

and now i see it's for 3 o_O

i want my russian ak to combat all these german guns :<

Didn't read all of it or have had time to play it yet but what i'm reading doesn't sound good at all. There were way too many automatic weapons even before dde guns were added in the soup of spray :(

I actually like it the way it is. I enjoy using the MKB and I think it's a great gun to counter the PPSH.

Yeah, I think everyone has the right to be upset when one team gives a large chunk of their players access to the weapon that made all the other weapons in the game obsolete.

Make an elite assault class, and make it "eat into" normal assault. I.E. limit the weapon a lot.

Don't forget that these weapons are prized by Russian players as well so when a German goes down the number of weapons on the field increases.

Yeah I was thinking about this last night instead of sleeping...there's no elite assault class limiting the mkb or the avt...

Given all the arguments before release and the insistence of "limited to 1-2 per team" surely this implementation is not what it's going to be full time...
