I love the "gun shot out of your hand" feature but one thing that I don't get, and annoys me greatly, is how all your ammo for that gun automagically flies out of your pouch (or wherever it is stored) when you are shot in the hand. It's not realistic and the hassle of picking up each individual clip again is frustrating ... especially considering since the weapon was shot out of your hand, you probably are under fire at the moment.

On a related note, I don't like how you have to pick up each clip separately. Since in real life, if you get shot, you pockets don't just empty littering clips around your dead body, I think it would make more sense to have to "use" a dead body (or a detached ammo pouch) to collect all the clips that that person had. (The grenades can fall separately.) Also, I'm fairly positive I remember that when you pick up a dropped weapon, it has zero ammo until you pick up a clip. To me, it makes sense that there would still be a clip in the dropped gun. (Though since you wouldn't know how many bullets there are, perhaps hitting the reload button when you have no extra clips would pull out the clip an "weigh" it so you can get an idea if you want.)

Just a few thoughts that have crossed my mind while playing this game on and off for the last day. Great work overall though!

Yes, I'd also like to see some kind of fix for all the ammo flying out.

I'd also like some easier way to pick up specific things when there's a bunch of them on the ground - can be a pain when you want to pick up that Papasha but can zero in on it, and get shot in the process :)

However, the ammo that's in the gun doesn't fly out when the person dies/drops it. Though, it should be illegal to drop smg's without any ammo in it: I've died quite a few times 'cause I didn't reload after picking up a weapon, and then faced a enemy with a "click click".

It wouldn't being so bad trying to pick up every single clip if it was easier. I have to press use like 3 times in .3 sec or I can't pick it up, its so annoying and its a bit harsh on the hand :(.

I agree, when the gun is shot out of your hand you should not loose all the ammo. I've died one time from dropping my gun (Mosin), picked it up and shot the last shot killing one, but then another german came and I didn't have the time to pick up all the rest of the ammo. I love losing your gun feature (I'm used to that from mods on CoD etc), but all the ammo should still be on you.

I have a question...how did the developers think it was realistic for ammo to fly out when you are shot? Even if in real lilfe your gun was shot, either your gun just became defunct or you could just pick it up and again and shoot (the guns are metal too, they aren't exactly pierced by the bullet). But even if you were to get your gun shot out of your hand and it was still functional, how would the ammo magically fall out of the gun? Did the invisible ghost just decide to steal your ammo everytime you dropped it for shits and giggles? I think the whole feature is merely a gimmick to make ammo and weapon to seperate entities, but it is not pulled off realistically.

Either have to weapon totally destroyed by gunfire, or if it's not, just keep it the way it is, and not have any ammo in the gun or leftover ammo you havenn't loaded fly out. And when you find a body with ammo, allow the player to refill all of his ammo supplies depending on how much the body has, kind of like an ammo station.

Maybe if someone could suggest this directly to the developers

well I was also thinking of using something that is applied in BF1942. When you go near an ammo box, it slowly refills, as if the person was taking it out of the box and putting it into his knapsack or something. Same thing with this. When a person goes up to a body, you merely hold the use button, and then the animation would have the person automatically reach for the sack where the ammo is on the body, and put it into his pockets. It could be implemented sort of like deactivating a bomb on Counterstrike; there is a little meter where upon pressing the use button, it begins to fill up. So when it fully fills, you collect one ammo clip. While the meter is filling up though, it would have the animation of you picking and searching the guy's body and bag for ammo.

But the one thing we agreed on is to not have the ammo fly out when shot, and not to empty the gun of ammo when shot out.

The technical reason for this (I originally supported having it NOT fly out) is because the alternative is to either have ragdolls server side (a big nono) so that the ammo can be attached to the model OR have a more advanced inventory system which is outside the scope of the game. ATM its easy enough to pick up the dropped ammo.

Maybe this can be implemented using UE3, who knows.

There was a similar topic about this a week ago about having 10 - 15 different things laying on the ground when you die or get a weapon shot out of your hand

Having all the clips in a pouch or belt and all the grenades in a pouch or something would make it a lot easier to pick up ammo and what not, and it might even be better for the game performance wise b/c you don't have so many different things scattered about draining your FPS

But I do agree w/ the ammo dropping thing when your gun is shot out of your hand.

But I still dont' get how it's realistic or even beneficial towards gameplay to have ammo dropped out with the gun is shot. Either the gun is dead when it is shot, or it still has all the ammo inside and the gun is still working (so all you have to do is pick it up). I think it's just a gimmeck and a waste of time and space to have to pick up your ammo and gun seperately when it is shot out, because I have no clue how ammo (not to mention ALL of your ammo including spares) is flown out magically due to you dropping your gun.

The pouch idea/scavenging and scanning through the body ala "bomb deactivitation" in counterstrike is what I suggest instead of having individual clips lying everywhere (maybe a couple clips lying around, but most of them would be in the pouch)

Might be an engine limitation, actually. But I think the "weapon shot out of hand" feature is implemented kind of as a sub call to "drop weapon", which automatically drops your ammo too.

I liked the idea someone posted a little while back that your ammo still falls, but it's all in a bandolier/hip pouch instead of being loose clips/magazines.

Except it's not, that's the problem. The hitboxes on ammo clips, etc. are so small that it takes forever to line up you invisible "pickup" crosshair with the item you actually want to pickup.

Pressing the use key should just pickup anything you have a slot for in your LOS within a certain distance (e.g. 1 meter).

thats why the extra ammo should be on a pouch in the body, the loaded ammo should remain in the gun, and the use key can be used where, when located onto a body with ammo, the person automatically begins a process of searching the body and collecting ammo, like the ammo boxes in BF1942 but with animation and a llittle more waiting.

I think that's the ticket. The only thing is I'm guessing large MG ammo containers and panzers should still fall separately as well as grenades.

hehe, just be glad that its not like the old mod versions... you shot a guy and his body literally 'exploded' ammo like a pinata, shooting clips left right and centre for a few feet.

Quite humourous it was.
