I recently switched my dedicated Killing Floor server over from a Windows machine to a Linux machine. Its a computer on my LAN I have set up for my roommates and a few friends. I was hoping for improved performance and stability with the switch, however all I have been having so far is frustration and alot of intermittent problems.
most the time I try and connect to the server the first time it will try and connect and time out on me unless I hit f-10 to cancel it and retry and it works the second time...not a huge deal, but annoying...(I'm on windows 7 64bit by the way)
Internet users can connect to my server so far no issues..
My girlfriend (on XP) who is on the same network segment of the lan as I am often has the same connection issues, however it will just time out no matter if she cancels or not.
trying to connect from lan tab doesn't change anything.
manually through the console nothing..
sending her an invite in steam? nope...
manually setting the ip(with port) in favorites also fails to work.

but then when the server wants to play nice it will let everyone connect no problems... literally nothing has been changed from day 1 to day 2 and it makes all the difference in if she can connect or not to the server.

tonight it let me in no problems, 2 friends from the net as well, but for her it just timed out over and over again like the server wasn't up even though it showed for her in the lan tab and showed us in there.(and i am on the same lan and it worked fine for me)

I think I gave as much info as is relevant.. we don't use DCHP on our network and all of our IPs on our machines and the server are set to be static..
anyone else have anything similar happen to them?

is there a fix? or just hope the server is in a good mood and wants to play nice?
what sorts of things should one do to bribe a killing floor server to play nice?
should i just call a priest for an exorcism? hahaha

My server worked fine for month and 2 days ago it just stopped letting me in. I'm in same lan with my server and see it in lan games. It just stucks on Connecting (F10 cancels).

At same time my friends can connect normally from internet. o_O

Is your server Linux as well? What Os are you on? I figure the more relevant info we all have the better chance in fixing whatever the bug is?

*fingers crossed*

Same issue here. I can no longer connect to my linux server via LAN. It worked fine for the longest time. Not exactly sure when it stopped working.

I'm having the exact same problem and it's been pissing me off for hours.

Ubuntu server edition 10.10

Anyone from the internet can connect to my server with no problems, but I can't connect it it myself from a local computer on the same LAN as it.

On the console it detects me connecting as shown in
"Open myLevel Wed Apr 13 00:10:15 2011 192.168.0.100:63307"

Yet nothing else happens after that. However any of my friends online can connect with no issue in which I see a similar line, but then immedately afterwards a steam login line then their name showing they joined the game.

Can someone please find out why the heck my server is refusing connections from computers on the LAN??

Here's another weird twist too. If I connect to my server on the LAN IP address I sit forever at the connecting screen. But if I try to connect to my server on the external IP address I just get a disconnection instantly as if it's not there.

Again all ports are forewarded correctly, other people can connect to my server, just not anyone on the LAN.

Okay.. I had something for a few moments, but then it stopped working.
I was messing with the values:

[IpDrv.MasterServerLink]
LANPort=
LANServerPort=

and

[IpDrv.MasterServerUplink]
ServerBehindNAT=
DoLANBroadcast=

I tired changing the LAN port, and changed the ServerBehindNAT and LAN Broadcast back and forth between true and false, and suddenly in one single instance of the server I was able to connect to it using the internal IP address (external still did nothing at all), and my friends online were able to also connect into the same game.

I can't seem to be able to re-produce it now though which is extra frusterating.
Is there anybody that knows what's going on with this weird bug and know how to fix it?

I'm getting the same disconnect log entry when trying to join your server after a map change.

Log: Pending connect to 'IP ADDRESS/KF-Brewery?Class=Engine.Pawn?Character=Baddest_Santa?team=1?VAC=1?GAME=KFMod.KFGameType?Name=arramus' failed; Connection failed

I waited 3 minutes to see if connection would bite but it didn't. Once I've F10'd to sever the connection I am instantly able to join again from the server list.

I'm also getting a repeated issue with bringing up the map vote list. It takes a couple of minutes to populate after joining. The log entry fires off this message a lot of times in succession.

Log: MapVoteMultiColumnListBox::preDraw() has invalid components!
Log: List was NULL

Can you check if your server console window is spitting out a repetitive error message, even though it's otherwise functional? I had to rush out this morning and couldn't pay it too much attention but my server was returning an error message after this update.

The only errors i see are usual map warnings about missing animations, spawns and such stuff. Nothing similar to what you've mentioned

I've confirmed the issue is resolved on my end too.

I deleted all configuration data for killing floor in ~/.killingfloor and reinstalled the server after the update, and redid the server config steps.

My server now lets me in on the LAN again.

Thanks whoever fixed that bug!
