I recently switched my dedicated Killing Floor server over from a Windows machine to a Linux machine. Its a computer on my LAN I have set up for my roommates and a few friends. I was hoping for improved performance and stability with the switch, however all I have been having so far is frustration and alot of intermittent problems.
most the time I try and connect to the server the first time it will try and connect and time out on me unless I hit f-10 to cancel it and retry and it works the second time...not a huge deal, but annoying...(I'm on windows 7 64bit by the way)
Internet users can connect to my server so far no issues..
My girlfriend (on XP) who is on the same network segment of the lan as I am often has the same connection issues, however it will just time out no matter if she cancels or not.
trying to connect from lan tab doesn't change anything.
manually through the console nothing..
sending her an invite in steam? nope...
manually setting the ip(with port) in favorites also fails to work.
but then when the server wants to play nice it will let everyone connect no problems... literally nothing has been changed from day 1 to day 2 and it makes all the difference in if she can connect or not to the server.
tonight it let me in no problems, 2 friends from the net as well, but for her it just timed out over and over again like the server wasn't up even though it showed for her in the lan tab and showed us in there.(and i am on the same lan and it worked fine for me)
I think I gave as much info as is relevant.. we don't use DCHP on our network and all of our IPs on our machines and the server are set to be static..
anyone else have anything similar happen to them?
is there a fix? or just hope the server is in a good mood and wants to play nice?
what sorts of things should one do to bribe a killing floor server to play nice?
should i just call a priest for an exorcism? hahaha
