RO2 will be using steam I believe. You can buy the game in box form but you will need steam to run it.
I think steam is good for the game, instant patch updates, easy to navigate friends lists and a huge user base for advertising :IS2:

I have to say I really don't like the way people get their rep voted to nothing because they don't share the majorities views. A very bad idea.
Fair enough to lose it for obnoxious/inappropriate comments, but not because you don't like Steam, totally ridiculous!

I think it's a poor statement, TWI were one of (if not the) first third parties to have their game released via steam - and it has done nothing but immeasurable good for them.
Expect RO2 to be released via Steam and in Retail, however you will probably need Steam to play.

My favourite feature with steam is the ability to interact with the players I play with, even if I don't have the game launched or have them on my friend list. An easy and helpful tool for clan gaming, but perhaps there are better stuff what do I know.

I think the bigger problem here is that every 2 months someone is asking if HoS will use steam and they hope not because they don't like steam and the majority has to elaborate once again ...

Agreed, but whenever someone arrives with a slighlty different outlook, the same happens. I think some members could do with getting out a tad more often, maybe in daylight

You cannot run a game without running steam, and that is one of the primary reasons why a lot of people dislike steam.
They do not necessarily dislike the auto update features etc. but would rather see that embedded within the actual game.
I use steam as a regular chat client so I'm not bothered by running it. but if you only play one game that uses steam having to use steam for one game, and a different program for the other games and yet another different one for some others gets kinda annoying.
Steam offers nice features but if you do not use those features its annoying that you are forced to use it.

Steam definitely has more pros than cons. One thing I've wondered about though -- what happens if steam goes out of business for whatever reason? Will that mean all these games that require steam to play are no longer playable? That alone seems like a valid enough reason to hate steam if it is true.
At the beginin, I was a little suspicious about a system like STEAM but yet, I allways hope find games I want to buy on STEAM.
1. It's easier to install games with STEAM... Ok, it's necessary to have an internet connection but you don't need to find an old CD you bought or the manual with the keycode to install/play it (I've lost 1 manual and 1 CD of another game after many years and can't no more play them or I need to find a keygenerator!).
2. You can install your games on how many computers you have (Desktop, Notebook and Netbook). Very usefull on Netbook because they don't have CD-Rom.
3. It's not necessary to have an internet connection to play, just disable your connection and STEAM will ask (when it starts) if you want to play offline (if you want to play online, reactivate the connection after that but you can't join friends with STEAM of course... and I only tested with RO:Ost maybe that don't work with other games).
Warning: the option "Don't save account credentials on this computer" in the "Settings" should be unchecked !
4. You can quickly check the success of all your games (not necessary to launch the games and not necessary to connect on many sites, only STEAM)
5. For the Friends system... Principaly when you want to join them in game.
...and many others reasons...
So for me is... YES for STEAM !

That's probably because these people arriving with different outlooks don't start meaningful discussions on topics. Saying "Steam is Evil
" with no thought out reasons to back yourself up as your third post on a forum where everyone loves Steam is obviously not going to be taken well.

You may be right but equally the OP may have had a bad experience with Steam and he is basing his comments on that. Personally I like Steam ( although in the early days it was a right royal royal pain in the backside ), but I would defend anybody's right to dislike it without needing to know why
