The first time I did it, I entered my custom URL name, with the same result. It turns out that you need to enter your profile's numeric ID instead.

Yeah, but no one pays attention to that thing.

It should stand out though among the few people that are actually using it in a thread specifically about Steam IDs, so there should be no issues noticing it. Unless it needs to stand out a little more...

for some reason the forum won't let me add the steam id link to my forum profile. i enter it in but it doesn't say updated it just goes back to my usercp page and it's still not there.

You need to enter the numeric ID, it'll be in the URL of your control panel.
