You can't use an internet IP to join another machine on the same local network, if that's what you're trying to do.

I have this same problem...

I open all the ports as listed in the sticky above
I downloaded the KF Beta dedicated server
Copied maps and mutators to this folder
Added mutators to serverpackages in KillingFloor.ini
Added a GameConfig line in KillingFloor.ini
Added mutators redundantly to the kf_server_launcher.bat file

Run the server via bat file from the dedicated server folder and it appears to be running on my local machine.
Run KF client from steam and when I try to connect to the server either internet or LAN, it says steam cannot connect me to the server.

Do I need to open up different ports for both the client and dedicated server on the same machine? I have a quad core cpu so thats no problem.

The reason I want to do this is so I can setup a local server with all the mods that I want to play with sometime, yet not install those mods in my client, but let the client update via cache, This will allow me to also join those internet servers where they have modified mutators but never renamed it.

I also tried to run a dedicated server from within the client, then rejoin it by launching the client again, but it won't let me connect to any servers in this case... I notice its because steam_appid.txt file is created and if in use, will not allow me to launch a second instance from the same directory.

But the two separate directories - dedicated server beta and game client won't allow me to connect to each other.

I don't want to create a listen server due to mutator conflicts and it also eats up a lot gpu power if I idle.

My servers run on a dedicated server, I can see them on the "Internet" browser:

Now, if I want do add it manually from favorites, or connect from steam://connect...:

So, the only way to add server to favorites or connect from Steam, is to find them from hundred of servers, hard.

So sad how neither Steam nor TWI can't decide up a solution, as I guess it's on the steam forums as well.
