I once racked up about 25+ kills with a stationary Maxim on Spartanovka (It was set up in one of the windows of the Church). To be fair, though, I'm pretty sure the german team was full of morons, they just kept coming over and over again to be slaughtered. It is, hands down, the most success I've ever had, in any game, with a fixed machine gun position. I hopped on it about midway through the map time, and didn't die once until the map ended. I ended up achieving all 3 of the positive achievements (most team points, most valuable player, and most kills)... it was the only time I've ever achieved any of the achievements, let alone all 3 of them lol.

I agree, though. Normally, fixed machine guns (in any game, not just RO2) are all but worthless, with this one time (for me, at least) being the exception.

These are pretty dangerous to use, but if you just use them for a short period they contribute a ton of lead to a fight, providing a big distraction/amount of cover for your teammates.

Agreed.... if they're located in a window not commonly filled by a team mate any other time, they can be very effective.

As a Rifleman on Spartanovka, I took up a fixed MG in the Russian's building and mowed down anybody coming out of the Church. I burst shot a few rounds to take down one or two Germans, then I ducked for cover in case anybody saw me or decided to look in my direction..... with any luck they either didn't see me, or they saw me but figured I moved on. I'd stay down for 5+ seconds to make it seem as though I either wasn't there or I took off.

Then I pop back up and take a couple of more germans down & repeat.

I think I did that for half the round before I got sniped. :D

I did something similar on Grain Elevator. There's one spawns on the fourth floor, sited towards the central staircase. I hopped on that one and just fired in a fixed line right where the Germans would be coming out of the stairwell. I went through three belts of ammo and killed probably 7+ Germans before they got wise to me. And I was blindfiring through smoke half the time.

not useless...

not useless...

Truth is... the stationary MG is extremely powerful, but there are 2 things to note:

1) Position is everthing (obviously)
Key to this is, in every map there are powerful MG/Sniper places that are very hard to find, you basically have to somewhat "study" the map for these places, because if you use the ones "designated" by the map, in other words the ones that look or seem logical, you are ****ed. Usually in a map I have like 1-3 important places, top.
2) MG has several uses.
-they can be "place holders" for an attack wave, kinda like a respawn point for squad members for when they die they spawn either in a "safer position"(commisars house, anybody?) or closer.
- dont forget their strong suppressing ability. People that are suppressed are not as effective than non suppressed, you would be surprised what a bunch of rounds to the building (apartments) in the beginning of the match can do... Ive won games by suppressing enemies that are clustered in buildings, by shooting from a safe (safer) location.

Main thing to remember is, it takes more than just skill to be an efficient MG'er, its not about accuracy or hoping you don get shot. It involves more planning or map awareness than anything else.

Every once in a while you'll get one setup in a great spot and you can rain down holy hell on folks.

Grain elevator is the only map that they seem to be in good locations more often than not. The first floor ones are usually awesome for ripping up germans coming through their smoke,

This is by far one of the best i have used.... on the floor of the grain elevator as enemy come through the windows and smoke. It is so good because from inside the grainary you can not even see it and its FOV or its FOF (field of fire) is briliant.

The other one is on Commisars house german one behind the water refinry.

Good range and FOF and easy to pick out targets in the snow with the distance.

When you use them dont think to much about conserving ammo....they are about suppressing.... i have got on them before and just flat out used the whole ammo box on a general area i know enemys are and have got kills...not even aiming... just cutting silly in there general direction...but i dont hang around to reload it.

Has a great ability to suppress.

I've actually found quite a few that are utterly devastating, namely the alley in Apts. behind the Propaganda House, one in the Propaganda House courtyard (at least until they flank around the sides), the ones in the windows in Fallen Fighters, and a few others I can't think of right now. I've actually done quite well using these MMGs. They have no recoil and almost bottomless magazines. It's almost like cheating.
