I'm making this poll for the people in the other thread.

How do people like the idea of having bodies that stay but turn into static objects after a while and don't just stay ragdolls (the ragdolls are what lag the server after a while with the ineedbodies mut)

if done right, you wouldn't be able to tell if a body was static or a ragdoll except that one would move a little.

you of course would be able to walk through them to avoid clipping issues.

The engine renders all static meshes in the view field whether you can see them or not, so maps typically include several (invisible) blockers that are used to 'block' that field of vision so the client isn't forced to render meshes that are, say, in another room or beyond the 'fog.' The invisible walls themselves take some resources to compute, so they aren't placed inside every single wall, just when they block enough meshes to save more than they cost--they're the lesser of two evils when used properly.

My kneejerk would be to say I'm not sure it's entirely within the scope of this engine to do that, but I'd like to see it happen, it would add depth to the KF experience.

how would this be accomplished? yes it would be good to have nocollision static mesh bodies, but its not very feasible with this engine.

spawn the static body right as the ragdoll disappears. hard to fudge or look seamless but if done well it would add depth and make the map actually look like there was a battle that took place

I'd like to see this and just more random dead bodies in maps in the first place.

It's a little odd seeing London's streets almost completely empty. You'd expect at least a few more people didn't make it to evacuation than the handful we have already.

especially since everyone is supposed to be dead. the most you see in terms of dead people are dead mutilated scientists.

the citizens are supposed to either be evacuated or dead. the specimens have also been through all the stock maps previously. therefore there should be some sort of carnage left over.

oh well, the least they could add is a way for the carnage YOU make to be left there

I like this idea as well, but do you mean that the bodies stay after each wave. That means bodies would start to stack on each other, there would be a pile of clots after a way. How would that be handled. People would be able to walk through the pile, that would look strange. What about the zeds, about them walking through the already dead. It would be funny to stand on top of a bunch of dead zeds, be a great screenshot.

It would have a much more graphic affect, like Dawn of War, or Painkiller with the cheap turned on.

I would like to see more bodies around the map was well. But zeds are like zombies and eat whatever is dead, so that could explain the shortage of bodies.

well at some point they would have to disappear yes, but not for a good while

Wouldn't some of the bodies start hiding crawlers after awhile?

good point, however im still in favor of bodies staying

i said this in a previous post

it dosnt have to be alot of zeds, maybe at 80 or so corpses they start to dissapear

Would it be possible to make the crawler attempt to jump over the dead bodies to make it look a bit more realistic AND prevent it from hiding inside them >_>

I voted for no. Whilst I found it a novelty at first after about 5 waves I found everything on the screen rather irritating. Carpets of corpses I can do without. I hasten to add this is not based on lag. Just found it overkill.

Although this topic originated from one of my topics(I'm very influential like that) I don't like this idea. Consider How many times you have seen specimen's fold over a fence or a ledge, or stuck them to a wall or ceiling still jittering and then remember bodies in Halo: Combat Evolved.

it'd work better as a mutator for sure. i understand that many people don't want bodies everywhere. it's just that some of us care about immersion more then other game aspects. (immersion, not realism :p)

I suppose it would only retain bodies that were shot down or decapped, giblets would always disapper? Of course removing static bodies at the end of each wave would be sensible.

One thought of a potential mutator for that *immersion* feel would be to have the specimens reduce to ash and disintegrate once they were killed (explained as their bodies breaking down into base elements to feed the body mass for the clone vats I suppose). Something like Serious Sam HD would be cool if possible on this engine :)

(No clue if it is doable as I have done absolutely 0 modding or game programming in my life :D)
