Woo finished CS so onto Pimphat :)

***Minor Spoilers Coming***

CS was alright actually considering it is the worst out of the three, the first area (the swamp) is great and corden & garbage are pretty good as well, the other areas, before the final ones seemed a bit empty, with only one or two decent side missions (though I was going fairly quick at that point) and most of the main missions being fairly bland, but it picked up at the end with the last two/three areas being just pure fairly linear action, though the finale at the NPP was rubbish, much worse than SoCs. On the plus side equipment and artifacts where handled alto better than SoC, though the fixed artifacts spawns kinda ruined the exploration.

So in terms of the story/atmosphere CS was for the most part worse (not bad just average) than SoC though it did have its moments, such as assaulting Limansk (sp) and the construction site, in my case at night in a thunder storm with flares going up now and again was awesome and again creeping through the 'haunted' bloodsucker village was just as fairly nerve wracking for me. For the 'living zone' and 'faction war' features it was pretty poor aside from the swamp area but again the day night transitions, weather etc and the areas (aside from content in them) were great.

Got to try and get into playing CoP now, and happily most of the things wrong with the first two seem to be corrected, much more open zone, better missions and carrying on the great atmosphere though sadly from what Ive heard the area with Pripyat seems a bit empty compared to the other two areas which is a bit of ashame.

I uninstalled CS yesterday :p I loved SoC, but the sequel have just too many bugs and got tired of that. Dunno if I'll try the third one without finishing the second :(

I really think the only good part about CS was the fact that you had to work to get artifacts rather than them lying around everywhere. Everything else was just ****.

Anyone else crashing if you try to set the detail to anything but Static Lighting or Enhanced Lighting (DX10)?

The game simply refuses to start up if I have it set to something else like Full Dynamic Lighting for instance.

No dice.

Game won't start unless it's on one of the two settings I mentioned, which is fine, but it kinda sucks that I'm stuck with DX10.

The effects are nice but you hardly ever notice them, and they bog the game down.

Try forcing it off in your video driver control panel.

Now this is more like it!

Atmosphere is there, big open maps, good missions, lots of creepy areas, no annoying pop-up missions you can't refuse, and more emphasis on stalking than faction wars nobody cares about, i am very pleased! a worthy sequal to SoC at last :)

If you liked SoC, you should definately get this, just bear in mind that it's a bit slower paced, it's more Stalking, less random combat, it's a game you can take your time with, not one that relentlessly drives you forward with white knuckles all the way like CS tried to do, this game is much more about exploration, which personally, i definately liked!

However, thease guys still can't make bullet gunz.. they are not as bad as they where in CS, once i got them upgraded they where good enough to carry me through my first playthrough, but regardless, the moment i beat the game i decided to crack open Notepad and give them a makeover, which you guys can grab here:

-->http://www.filefront.com/15749341/GrobCopGunz-v1.0.zip/http://www.filefront.com/15749341/GrobCopGunz-v1.0.zip/<--

And this is what it does:

1) All guns do some more damage.
2) All guns (except pistols) have better accuracy.
3) Random chance of bullets doing no damage removed.
4) All projectiles have more velocity.
5) Projectiles transfer minimal velocity to target.
6) Accuracy is the same from hip or aimed fire stances.
7) Gun-degridation is greatly reduced, it takes a long time for guns to break down now.

And i decided to have a go at reskinning the AKS-74 whilst i was at it aswell, that olive-drab furniture is just.. icky, good old Soviet "plum" is the way to go! and i added some more detail to the reciver whilst i was at it aswell, made the bolt-carrier black instead of silver, added the stockrelease and other little things, reskinned all the UI icons aswell, the skin is included in the mod:

I can kinda understand bullets doing no damage occasionally, since some Stalkers wear armor.

They need to get cracking on mods. I'd love to see something like Arsenal done for CoP. Only problem with mods like that though is you still have weapons in the zone that are rare or just absurd.

That's not it, it's an RPG'ish element put in the game, just like rolling the die in a game of D&D, there's allways a chance you'll roll something bad and your attack fails misserably, and for that reason, you can shoot a guy who's only wearing a leather jacket in the head, and sometimes nothing happens, the bullet just goes straigh through him..

That's not realistic, and nor do i feel it has ever added anything fun to the game, there's nothing worse than lining up that perfect headshot on an unsuspecting target, and seeing the bullet hit him right in the forhead, but nothing happens.. the game just robbed you of the kill for no good reason.

Arsenal wont be out for CoP for a while, word is that the guy behind it is quite the perfectionist, and he allways takes his sweet time before releasing, so i woulden't hold my breath for it.

That's why i'm making this little mod to tie me over, bigger and better mods will eventually come along to make it obsolete, but they wont be released for a good while still, projects like that take time, and the game is too good to just sit there and wait for the big mods to happen.

BTW is it just me or are the graphics nothing but average anymore? I have everything on highest settings and even DX11 but so far(I'm still at the ship right at the beginning) everything looks rather 2007 at best :S

The graphics and lighting in Clear Sky were totally awesome but there still isn't any rig on the planet capable of maxing that game out.

Grobut, is your AKS-74 texture of higher resolution than the original one? I wouldn't want it affecting the game's performance.
By the way, shouldn't that gamedata folder be named "config" and not "configs"?

It's the same size, 1024x1024 with no Alpha, so the performance should be exactly the same, and i haven't noticed any slowdown on my rig (which is not exactly brand spanking new or anything, i'm running medium settings to play this game).

By the way, shouldn't that gamedata folder be named "config" and not "configs"?

It would seem logical, but no, it is actually supposed to be "configs", thats what the folder was called when i decompressed the origional gamdata, and i would assume it will only work if the folder is called "configs".
