I have read a couple of things that seem to be misrepresented about the Xbow in KF. I wanted to clarify a few things, i primarily play as a SS on suicidal because of the massive amount of damage landing on headshots, i have over 15k HS's. I consistently get more kills than the level 5 commandos and support, while taking out the bigs before they get close to my team. Often taking out upwards of 800 specs in a full suicidal game (6 man).

1: This is the single most important rule with the xbow:Learn to group, aim, and retrieve your xbow bolts. This is the most underused ability that the Xbow has. I have heard people say that an xbow should never take down crawlers, clots and stalkers (all 1 shot kills with lvl 5 on suicidal), this just isnt true when you can shootat a bolt 30-25 degree angle down, follow your shot, pick up the bolt and reload at the same time. Its like free ammo, from yourself. With minimal setting 3 bolts will stay...with max setting i believe 5 will stay (not confirmed). Practice this and learn to follow your shots within 15-20 feet. Switch to HCx2 if you need to clear more of a path.

2: Learn that "scarke" sweet spot, even from the left side, shoot directly through his upper neck in the exact middle. This is vital to 6 man team success IMO!

3. All yellow FPs, you should decap with 9mm. when red, dump on him with xbow 4 times...try to hit upper body and head (even though he is fast)

4. Dont miss, seriously this sounds simple...but you have limited ammo with the Xbow make them count. Simple enough...really practice step one! Its not used enough!

We will see how the next update effect the SS class. For now...

A couple other tips:

*if you have 15+ bolts in an xbow, and have surplus money leave the xbow in "your" spot, you can never have too many xbows( i have been known to stock up 9+ xbows (1 per round). THIS IS A TEAM SAVER!

*9mm is a beast, double tap those clot/gorefast heads...pleanty of ammo here. Also pick the bloat heads from distance with the 9mm.

*use the HCx2 as a last resort, not a as a primary (i use to drop crowds within 10-15 feet)

*in a 2x+ gore rush shoot the down angle to stall gores, finish off with a quick HC burst, to drop gorefast horde rushes, pickup bolt(s)!

I might also add that: If you shoot bolts that land in a group, and another sharpshooter walks over them, you get your ammo back. Some friends and I are all exceptional sharpshooters, and we have developed a sort of strategy where we only aim within certain areas the zeds like to walk through, which just so happen to be where our teammates are located, relatively. It's not uncommon for us to finish a suicidal wave with 35+ bolts left.

is this confirmed by anyone else? I have yet to see it, but it would be a nice feature!

Thanks for the guide. I've been worried much more about buying as many xbows as possible to be ready for the later rounds, but now I try much harder to pick up the bolts. Now I always seem to have at least 10 bolts left by the end of the round. This has made a lot of difference for me.

I must admit, until you hit level 5, you probably won't want to try shooting at a downward angle much because you are trying to pump your HS numbers.
