German Arty on Hedge Hog
German Arty on Hedge Hog
The
The problem with using arty from the German side on Hedge Hog is that the map is very wide and the worst thing one can do is place arty on a spot that is currently occupied by either infantry or a tank because they will most likely move before the first salvo gets there.
In this case German artillery is most effective not for killing the Russians but for dictating their axis of advance.
1) Do not use any arty until the Russians cap either the East (right) or West (left) Farmhouse. The reason is simple, which ever one they cap first is permanently theirs, the Germans can not cap it back, therefore the Russians will not go back there unless they are dumb and an arty placement on that side of the map would be useless.
2) Place the arty somewhere along the river (running East/West) on the German side of the bank but not on the bridge (hardly anyone uses it). This placement is not designed to kill the Russians but to force them to move around it funneling them in the direction of one of the two remaining objectives. This effectively "shrinks" the map and makes it much easier to defend.
3) Call the first two strikes in the same spot, then move it in such a way that forces them to shift their assault to the objective that was previously cut off. This will cut off reinforcements to the one that they have been attacking and allow you to effectively defend both objectives from in between them with the artillery defending your flank!
-) This tactic forces the Russians to attack your defenders on a parallel axis rather than a perpendicular one, unless they want to take the long walk around to attack the Central Farmhouse, in which case you, as squad leader accompanied by an MG and at least one PAK trooper should be able to discourage them by picking them off one at a time, they will become impatient and go back to the shortest distance attack where you can butcher them at will!
Hope this helps.
