I was watching a gameplay video of Red Orchestra2 and from the stamina bar it seems you can sprint for about the same amount of time as you can in the original but your guy looks as if he's sprinting alot faster than in the first one.

Is he sprinting the same speed and it just looks faster because he's holding SMG and got his arms flailing around everywhere or is it actually faster? I don't know if I like having the sprint speed faster than in the original, it seemed just the right speed for the amount of time you can sprint.

Could someone, preferably a developer help me out here?

The video I was watching was this one. ‪red orchestra 2 heroes of stalingrad german gameplay 2‬‏ - YouTube

Really? I think RO:Ost is too short time-wise, physically fit soldiers should be able to sprint with full kit (which weighs little in comparison to today's) for a fair amount of time.

Goddamn i like the gameplay in this video. And i agree with Damo i think in reality soldier should be able to sprint a bit longer than in the original red orchestra.

I can't speak for ww2 gear but having used modern gear when i was in the army, you won't be running for very long even if you're well trained.. that is if you've all the equipment on plus gun(s) , water , packs etc.

Obviously in combat, unless ambushed or under certain circumstances you'd leave all unnecessary gear, running is one thing and jogging is another one and that we had to do quite often or rather got forced to jogg 10 km with gear or walk for an eternity, hazzle in snow etc.

I think it looks fine from what i've seen tho and i'm sure TWI has it balanced correctly for what the game offers.
We've to remember its a game after all, even if its realistic.

Just noticed something in the video. Is it just me or when hes running is he hold a KAR98 but when he stops hes holding his MP40 again?
No, that's a MP40 all the time. You can only see the end of the MP40 when he is running.

No watch it in fullscreen 720p you can tell its an MP40 when he is sprinting from the colour is all one, the Kar98 has a mix of brown wood and metal, also the end of barrel has the ironsights ALSO you can see the clip when he runs just slightly when he fully extends his arm.

I think about twice as long as RO ( maybe a touch less ) would be much more useful and realistic :)

By today's standards, once the Bergen (big army-issue back-pack incase you're unaware) has been dropped and you have nothing on you but med-kit, weapon, ammo, water and emergency rations it's comparatively and relatively easy to sprint for fair distances. Based on that load-out being similar, and in many cases, better supplied than your average combat-ready Commie, I'd like to see increased sprint time - though not by much - tbh it's not something that majorly bothers me :)

10km jogs in full kit are nothing btw, it's not even a half marathon ;)

My only beef with the video is the voice acting... that German guy screaming sounded like he had his balls squeezed into a vice... everything else seems solid and I still can't wait for the beta release... Digital Deluxe BABY!!

Actually, I agree with Heady89...

RO1 did a good job, and realistically made troops tire quickly when running ( even thou troops seem to move to quickly in most cases...up-down stairs, over obstacles, rough terrain, etc ), and kept them in that same state evem if jogging. Its not until troops started to walk that they regain stamina.

However, and from what I hear, troops in RO2 will run just as quick and tire even less then in RO1...This IMHO will simply give an unrealistic feel to the game.

I agree with this. Today's soldiers (at least in the US Army) are trained to run flat out for a half mile with a 3 day SOP ruck. Full battle rattle.

A short 50m jog with what the character models have on them is realistic. However it is to balance gameplay. I think one of the best games to fix this is ARMA2. You can sprint indefinitely in ARMA2, however you start to slow down after a bit, and your aim is affected by your labored breathing. Very well done, would love to see something like that in RO2.

Arma 2 seems to do fine with a pretty fast runspeed and unlimited sprinting (with drawbacks, and you slow down over time)
I get the impression that many games make you run too slowly in an attempt to make it somehow seem realistic.

What you are seeing is that, while running the local lighting is ignored. Basically, even though he is in the shade, the gun is rendered in full sunlight. A bug none the less, hopefully addressed and corrected.
