Setback for spotify.

Some record companies and artists (not specified which) have forced them to take down some music completley and to make restriction on in which countries some songs should be available.

That's odd, I thought country restrictions already existed
Searching for Oasis yeilds no results when you're using a british account. Or so a friend told me. I don't care much for Oasis...

Yeah, thats the problem with relying on a service like this, you are victim of the whims and ancient distribution chains of the big music labels... :(

I've tried the app though, its good, and impressively small footprint - but the sound quality is pretty bad (annoyingly low volume!) and the selection's ok but not impressive. So until Amazon MP3 opens the gates I'm relying on mininova for my digital download needs :p

Resurrection.

Now has over 7 million users, which 500 000 are paying for it.

Supposedly Spotify will arrive to U.S this year. New countries like the Netherlands can also get acces to Spotify. Service has been updated to support higher quality for members and new membership option added, 5

I just found this link: http://consequenceofsound.net/2010/07/30/spotify-not-coming-to-america-anytime-soon/

"Having failed to persuade the major record labels to go along with its vision for a U.S. version of the popular European service, Spotify in the last month has approached the labels with a clean slate to determine what type of service would be possible to launch before the end of the year.

Spotify has been eying a U.S. launch for almost two years, originally expecting to go live in this market in 2009. But some labels, most notably Warner Music Group, have gone on record stating their displeasure with the "freemium" model that Spotify champions, which offers unlimited streaming for free under an ad supported model designed to drive users to a premium paid tier that eliminates ads and offer mobile access."

I still don't like Spotify, still doesn't have a good enough music catalouge (according to me) and I still prefer ITMS over Spotify.

Download > stream

It actually downloads the tracks if you want to. Theres little streaming after listening once, atleast for members. Plus they have added offline mode in there.

But you have to pay for it every month, when you stop paying you lose your music (unless you "hack" witch is not a legal solution).

Something new came up. Spotify now requires a facebook account to be activated if you want to use it. That's the only way to make new account. Anyone else feels this is absolutely retarted decision? Making a software in order to work tied to some website account that has no reference to Spotity to beging with? Imagine if Steam required you to use Myspace before activation.

Damn those idiots. I have never seen such a move done before, what if Google+ gets more attention and no one will use Facebook anymore. Will they just change it back then?! I will stop using this one if they don't change it the way it used to be, just because how ridiculously stupid this is.

Yeah that sucks, I bet they will back down though, if enough people complain.

Like everyone has a fakebook account... sheesh. Glad I already have a Spotify account, although I just use it to preview albums before I ...erm ... purchase it.

This post from the link I gave abowe sums it up for me:

Glad that I have a “vintage” Spotify account but I would be put off if I was a new user. No service, product, anything is worth me giving personal information to that company (especially when I'm already paying for a premium service).

The adage is if you're not paying for it, you're the product. It seems in the case of Spotify you're paying for it _and_ you're the product.

Absolute bollocks.
Paying for service to remove ads and gaining that premium is now paying for service that uses a website to collect information for ads.
