It happened yesterday, I thought I just kept getting the sound bug we all know of, or that TeamSpeak was doing it. But today I start the game without TS on, and it is the same. There is still sound, but it is extremely quiet. I have to pump my speakers all the way up to hear anything, and I can't do that when I am talking to my clan mates because then it is extremely loud.

Now I am not sure if the game is entirely at fault, because now Firefox is the same way. It is not Steams fault, the sound works fine there. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm, interesting you mention TeamSpeak because first time playing RO2 with TS introduced this new very low sound problem. Before that going back to beta my sound was fine.

Methinks something fishy with RO2+TS = Very Low Sound!

I am not sure if it is TS that is the culprit. Though when people are talking in it, it lowers the sound of the game a little bit. But I didn't have this happen before I used TS, so maybe some weird settings got changed, though I highly doubt it.

Teamspeak 3?

Settings>Plugins> Uncheck Volume control.

TS 3 has a "feature" that turns your sound down in other applications while talking on TS.

So the question is: does TS turn RO2 volume down when you aren't talking?

If so, TS may be the problem.

What about after you close RO2, but still have TS running? Do system sounds like the error beep play quieter than normal? If you adjust the volume levels, do they revert to normal, or stay quiet?

Oh thanks for that, I didn't notice it.

But the game still has this issue with TS or not. I tried deleting the ROEngine file, that did nothing. If anyone can help me I would be very happy.

This is exactly what I thought was happening when this problem first happen, since I was using TS with RO2 for the first time. Figured it got stuck on low volume while somebody was talking and assumed it would be fixed without TS running. But that didn't happen, it's now stuck at a extremely low volume.

Where's the .INI files that have to do with the audio?

teamspeak has nothing to do with the problem for me. i don't use it. or the other program you mentioned.
twi knows about it. i've told them a bunch of times in the beta stat and sound test thread.
are you guys having the problem in the beta or the game or both?

Are you using Windows 7?

Can you please go to Start --> Run --> sndvol --> scroll to the left and right and check to see if any of your programs have their volume set to low?

Steams in-built VOIP seems to lower volume automatically when used, just like TS3 does. Sometimes it gets stuck at low volume.

Yes I am using Windows 7, and there is no "Run" in the Start menu. Not sure where it would be, never used it before.

I do not have the beta, so this is just for the game itself with me. The sound is fine in all other games I have through Steam.

Happens to me sometimes in games and firefox when I use teamspeak, to fix this I have to go into the bottom right (near clock) in windows seven and right click my sound icon (speakers or w/e), open volume mixer, and crank the individual programs volume up, for some reason when I run TS it'll make programs super quiet.

Wow it was something so simple. Thank you all for helping me out with this, and thanks Looter for that last post. I feel dumb now.

TWI you may delete this thread as it had nothing to do with the actual game, and I apologize for thinking and saying on here that it was the game.

Sadly this did not fix my problem. Though my System sounds was much lower than the rest, so turned that up. But this had no impact on RO2 at all. All my other games have the sound working just fine, just RO2 is still stuck very low. Only things I have in the list are system sounds, WMP, Firefox, and Steam.

Not sure if this will help but I was having a similar issue w/my sound... only opposite. While I was in game and in TS my sound in TS was lowered. Another thread suggested going into the control panel, sound, and I believe under advanced tab change the 24 bit from 48000 hz to 24 bit 44100. It solved my problem. I have onboard sound.

Run RO2, Alt+Tab and then go to the sound mixer and turn RO2 up, that's what I did if you are having the same issue I did.

That did it, thanks for the reminder. I tried this before but every time I alt-tabbed RO2 it crashed, so never showed up in my mixer list. Thank god for the patch helping the alt-tabbing stability.

Thanks to everybody who posted, much appreciated. All is well now! :)
