The sewers of Leningrad.
Some examples of a bit of... alternative tactics.

1. When in a building with explosives in a passing tank do either of the following.
A. Throw the explosives a good space in front of the tank.
B. Prime your explosives, jump from the building, land on the tank. (You've sacrificed your own life but think, how many did you just save?)

2. Drop all of your weapons and hide in a structure near the enemy line. Approach an enemy offering your platoons tactical movements. If the enemy decides to have you be moved to a place either pick up a grenade from your dropped kit or just a random grenade. Quickly turn a corner and toss your grenade at your escort, you now have gained their kit. (This one is more fun than purposeful.)

3. Anti-tank rifles can make decent sniper rifles!

4. When reloading a weapon that doesn't have clip or magazine and you see an enemy its best to drop your weapon and switch to your side-arm if you cannot cancel the reloading.

Can anyone else come up with some "Alternative" tactics?

I could not see any of the above tactics working in any game.

1: Why sacrifice yourself unnecessarily? Place the bomb and move. Simple. Tank dies, you live to fight another day. Huzzah!

2: What person would approach an enemy dressed in combat fatigues and take his "safe passage". Anyone with half a brain would capture or kill him there and then.

3: Sure, they fire long distances and accurately too. But, you fire one shell and every enemy within 3 km's is going to hear it. You really think anyone would choose an AT-Rifle over a designated marksman kit?
But I see where your coming from....

4: Personally, I don't. I spend the extra 5 seconds it takes to get my main weapon operational again, if the enemy is so close I can stab them, then I will, or I'll try evade them until I've finished realoding. I never use side arms in games, ever. Say you do use your side arm, and you miss. Now you have two weapons to reload before you can start shooting again. To much time is wasted for minimal gain.

My alternate tactic was the knife or bayonet! I know it's not that un-orthodox but I find taking out an enemy with the least amount of noise a massive gain in any situation. Even if that means stalking your victim for a few minutes. And if he's a noob he'll come searching for you after he spawns, and if your lucky he'll bring some friends with him. Perfect time to set an ambush.

Gonna have to disagree with you on this one, dropping a weapon to avoid being shot or to pull out a sidearm is a VERY useful tactic and definitely works well in close-up situations.

Haha you guys took it a bit too seriously, yea these are a bit out of the norm but it was just a bit of humor aswell, something that will accomplish your mission but you can have a good laugh afterwards. :D

it depends on whether they recognise what their team looks like. I still get kills on eg konigsplatz as a soviet tanker walking up to people and shooting them in the back of the head :D

Silly tactics can work extremely well once in a while. Obviously not every time, but if you're in a hopeless situation you may as well try. I remember one time I was being really reckless and made it literally right up to an enemy tank. Couldn't do anything so I just ran into a house; spent the next 10+ minutes killing enemy players from behind with a semi-auto rifle as they ran towards the enemy. They capped an obj so their spawn moved up, which made me have to move up, but I got shot finally.

I always loved to backdoor cap in maps like Bondarevo. Ride HT with 2 or 3 guys to second objective, wait when others cap first objective???? Profit!

I remember this good ol' time in close quarters when i was under heavy fire from a German submachinegunner that was a few meters away, very luckily he didn't kill me , just hit me in a bunch of non lethal areas and wasted all his ammo (Then hid behind a door), now because i was firing my Mosin at him like a mad man while this all happened, i wasted my clip, and didnt want to risk reloading so i attached my bayonet, pulled it back and ran in. I found him looking at the floor trying to pick up another gun, and let go of my mouse letting my bayonet penetrate his skull, he shat his pants. Sweet victory.

The only funny tactic I remember that worked is from some counter strike match where one team moved while crouched through the entire map and won.

Use his hunting instinct against him

Use his hunting instinct against him

Use his hunting instinct against him

This works in many cases: when you are inside a building in a long corridor or outside at a corner of a building and see an enemy soldier for like couple of meters from you, instead of attacking make sure he sees you (you can even shoot to get his attention) and make sure he sees you running away like a scared chicken. But what you do is immediatly release a grenade to the ground where he cant see it (like just around the corner). Like a bloodthirsty dog, the enemy soldier will try to hunt you and run after you. By the time he gets around the corner, the grenade explodes in his face.

This really works most of the time. Show yourself - run - release a grenade - run - hear the bastard screaming his guts out :D

Or run around the corner but stop right around the corner and wait with bayonet ready. You expect him, he doesn't expect you; you win.

just the other day I was running up to a house full of enemies, on the way my rifle was shot from my hand and I had no secondary weapon, I decided to keep running instead of going back to get it... well I made it to the house, walked upstairs and there were about 8 guys there and I had no way of hurting them.... (i was hoping one would die and I could pickup his gun), after a couple minutes one of them realized and shot me.

,if only I had had one grenade!!

Best tactic is getting a tank with a good balance of Firepower and Speed. Get a buddy. One drives, one shoots.

Who ever is the driver now has to be the craziest person alive. Who is shooting has to be able to shoot on the move.

Tactic: Ram enemy tanks in the side and circle them.

Chadwiick- Been circling tanks with GunnerX since we started.

I can understand OP's intention with this thread. I totally agree, sometimes, in uncommon situations an maniac can have a high impact. This is one of the reasons i love Red Orchestra: You are not a lonely soldier who is able to kill all of the enemy on your own if you are a very talented player, no you are highly dependent on your team... but i love it if i am holding a position which is, without doubt, lost a long time ago and none of the enemy players would think about someone still being there and defending, because it is just senseless and insane. However, little IVIARSHALL is still overthere and can injure the enemy replenishment :D.

On Smolensk as the German side, have a Halftrack drive up on one side, with maybe a few soldiers running around it, and have the rest of the team sneak/run up on the right. Will overwhelm and overwork the gunner the Russians always have, and the ridge and the village will fall swiftly into the Germans' hands.
