SOMEONE PLEASE HELP (Text won't show up!)

Hey guys, I recently got Killing Floor gifted to me on steam but when ever I try to play it it goes through the tripwire intro and all that but the text on any of the menus doesn't show up including the trader. this is really annoying. I've tried reinstalling at least 3 times and people have told me to reinstall directx or update my graphics card but i don't know how to do either one.

for windows, to update your graphics card (assuming you have windows 7), click start > type device manager in the search bar > click on the first one that shows up > double click display adapter > then right click on your graphics card and click update driver software
