I am a little curious about what these guys are saying. I am not british so am not up on their slang. Waht the heck is a "ponzies"

can any body translate what they are saying on this and other things said in the game? Half the time i cant even make out what they are saying let alone what it means.

I am sure that it is worth a laugh....if I only knew what they were saying.

Thanx!

Ponce: a man who is effeminate in his manner and fussy in the way he dresses.

"Come on, you want some you ponces!?"

You mean 'pansies'? Its plural of 'pansy', a vulgar term for a homosexual, I believe.

That it is, but pansies and ponces are different words, albeit interchangeable.

I believe that would be most likely due to language differences. English people pronounced it with an -o- like sound, whereas some other people couldn't pronounce it that way and decided to pronounce it with an -a- like sound, thereby making them the same word. It's like how Asians pronounce 'r' like 'l' but it doesn't mean they're saying an entirely different word, although it might be construed as such.

pansie has a more homosexual connotation than ponce - a pansie being a rather delecate purple flower. It is more descriptive of a soft nature for example, "come on, it can't hurt that much you pansie"

ponce is botha noun and a verb - for 2 different sets of meanings.

firstly it can suggest a pre-occupation with trivial or inneffectual, particularly your appearance, often without getting down to whats needed to be done. So someone could be accused of being a ponce, or told to stop 'poncing about' with something where there's a more important thing to do.
This is the more likely meaning in KF, although isn't the taunt aimed at specimens - which is weird..

And secondly a ponce is someone who repeatedly asks for something under the pretence of borrowing, which he has no intention of or cannot be returned.
For example cigarettes and food would be 'ponced' off ppl. and the person repeatedly doing it would be labelled a 'ponce'.

so if you hear it be aware it has 2 unrelated meanings.

Yeah, nowadays, in the dictionary there's different meanings for each, but I'm saying that it all originated because of pronunciation issues.

i don't they diverged from a single word by virtue of pronounciation, they are different terms that have separate origions - a pansy/pansie is a colourful flower with soft petals (hense a term of effemininity and ppl of a delicate nature) and ponce was origionally a term for a pimp.

The latter has managed to develop separate meanings, i guess probably highlighting different percieved traits of pimps - from the general appearance (poncy/poncey clothes), carousing while not doing any serious work (poncing about) and certainly from the fact that the pimp would procure money from the prostitute's endevour without actually having to do very much himself (to ponce off other people)

i think the OP has had more info than he bargined for, presuming he is still reading.

Ponce:
refers to someone who might be a bit of a wheeler dealer, is the local wide-boy, might be able to supply you with false gold watches and even a girl to keep you company "guv".
Worries a little to much about his dressing style.

Pansy: refers to someone who is as "gay" as a nine bob note"...

EDIT: what a funny forum, I'm allowed to say "gay" but not *****...
