I was curious to see the maps of the game in real aerial photos of the conflict and after searching in google I found a very interesting map of Stalingrad. On the map you can see many game maps as well as other areas not represented in the game.
Above each link I put the name of the game map which can be displayed on the link.

PS: Perhaps map designers can get extra utility of these photos.

Click for enlarge (some) photos.

The Station in-game is Station No. 1 - Station No.2 is further south, towards the grain elevator.

Here are a few shots from my recent stop over there in June this year.

Gumrak Station is still used but is no longer a station.

Likewise the grain elevator is still used.

Pavlovs House has been left untouched as a monument. The building behind it is a war museum.

This is inside that museum. Vasily Zaytsev rifle. Though my tour guide said it probably isnt his rifle. "Russia is like that". But that is his grave. He is buried at the foot of The Motherland Calls statue at Mamayev Kurgan along with a bunch of other Heroes of Stalingrad.

This is The Motherland Calls statue at Mamayev Kurgan. Some other great statues are there as well as an eternal flame monument.

This is a view from Mamayev Kurgan looking out to where the factories were and still are. So I guess that would be looking north. You can see the Volga.

This was put together at one of the grave sites. Can you name all the pieces ?

Anyway I thought I would finally get around to posting some photos. There isnt a great deal to see in Volgograd as it was all destroyed and demolished.

There are some scattered ruins and a few buildings that have been renovated. Lots of monuments and if you get a good tour guide some great stories and insights into the battle.

What found sticking was how flat the area is and also its not a very big city. Such a small area for a massive battle.

Definitely worth dropping by if you are in the area.

*Big picture*

The Station in-game is Station No. 1 - Station No.2 is further south, towards the grain elevator.

I spy with my little eye a Pavlov's house, Fallen Fighters Square (kinda obvious) and a Station. Nice to see the Univermag custom map was relatively accurate as well.

Are there any other in game maps there? Don't mind if its just a yes or no answer.

That isn't actually Dom Pavlova - that is the grist mill behind Pavlov's house. With the Panorama Museum in the background. And a repro of the "Barmalay" statue/fountain (originally in the station square) in front of it.

This was put together at one of the grave sites. Can you name all the pieces ?

There are both German and Soviet helmets; MG34, with 50-round mag still attached and AA gunsight - actually looks like there are two barrels there, one ribbed(??); DP28 drum mag, attached to a PTRS (or is it a PTRD?); Mosin-Nagant rifle; F1 grenade; German and Soviet entrenching tools; steel plate might be the gun shield from a Maxim. And a whole bunch of scrap metal!

I remember there was an excellent website with plenty of aeral pictures. (i remember the guys was creating a 3D version of stalingrad but it was loooonnnngggg ago, at the time of RO mod)
Unfortunately i'm 95% sure that it was stalingrad-battle.ru and it closed :(

The 3D thing was Russ Schulke - fireonthevolga.com.

You can still get aerials from John Calvin, here: http://wwii-photos-maps.com/ - he has an amazing collection and did a lot of research for us.
