So when is Tripwire going to the "connecting to Server" message hangings?

Ok Overlord this will be extensive but try it.

1. Copy and paste your steamapps folder to a safe location (usually desktop).
2. Uninstall Steam.
3. Type regedit in Run to open your registry editor.
4. Find HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Valve and delete the Valve folder in whichever has it or both if two exist.
5. Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Wow6432Node/Valve and delete that Valve folder too.
6. Reboot computer in Safe Mode with Networking (spam F8 at startup screen).
7. Reinstall Steam, do not let it log in to update. Cancel it as soon as it starts Steam after install.
8. Place your steamapps folder back into the proper place.
9. Start Steam and allow it to fully update, and then run Verify Game Integrity on your Killing Floor.
10. Reboot normally and try again.

Well I installed Steam + KF on another pc and it doesn't work for that one either. (Testing it on another pc in my house is less of a pain than all that, but it's practically the same thing).

Well there you have it. Your ports arent staying open. You need to go into the router and create an exception for the necessary ports so that the game can connect. The modem wouldn't have these ports open by default so using the modem directly made no difference. Tell me the router and I'll look up how to open the necessary ports for you.

Visit this webpage and navigate to the final part:
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-655/default.htm

In the name box type killingfloor.exe and in the IP box, select a computer from the drop down named Computer Name and press the arrows to send it to the box to the left. In the TCP box, type in "28852,8075" no quotes, and in the UDP box type in "7707,7708,7717,28852,20560" no quotes. For the Schedule drop down, select Always, and for Inbound Filter, select Allow All. Checkmark the little box to the left and save settings. Now try.

Is windows firewall disabled? If not it's still blocking the ports. You can configure windows firewall to allow for the listed ports as well, but you have to enter them one at a time then reboot your PC. Still more stuff to try.

I had disabled it before, I'll try disabling it now that KF is forwarded.

Edit: Still no go :(

What's your opinion on this? I mean, does this seem like an issue on my part or the game's?

Well here's everything we've ruled out:
Maps not loading
Invalid KF install
Invalid Steam install
Connection lagging out
Blocked ports

How about this, add me on steam and we'll talk about it one on one. My steam name is my forum username.

KF is for some reason pretty often blocked by firewalls etc (sometimes by isps so worthy of calling).

Although it doesnt block itself, so even if its not given access as easily as other programs, something on your side is blocking its access. If you use windows 7 make sure you're not a member of a homegroup. And if on vista or win7 make sure your internet connection is not set to public but to local or at home or whatever.

In your software firewalls and hardware firewalls and your virus scanners make sure KF is in the exception list.

no homegroup, and I'm set to home.

I also added you to Steam W***er (don't want to reveal your name on the net)

Hey, Z Overlord. I'm having the same problem as you, I've tried absolutely everything I can think of and that does include the stuff in this thread but nothing at all fixes it. When I try to connect to a server it just says Connecting... forever, I can browse servers just fine and no weird ping but I just can't connect to any. I'm running Windows XP.

proof that this isn't my fault.

Like I said, this does need to be fixed, all I want is for Tripwire to recognize this as an issue and have it in mind for the next fix.

After an hour poking in his computer last night I went into his log for the game and when he connects, Index.rom triggers kfintro.rom and once it attempts to open it, the game dumps connection and shuts down all the subsystems. I've deleted and redownloaded his kfintro.rom to see if it was just a bad one, but that's not the case. Certain users are just getting pure bad luck.
