So what is the cause of ridiculously high ping in this game?

Wow...80 ms would be considered barely playable? the lowest I EVER got in RO1 was around 90 ms...But I still did pretty good, It's because where I live that I can only play on foreign servers and you just get used to it, it isn't so bad really :p

Ugh. Its so bad.

And its particularly frustrating because it could be avoided. The ACTUAL network latency on these servers is rarely above 50.

It seems like 64 player setups just task the CPU's of the servers too much, and bring the latencies up to 150 - 200ms somewhere, which is so annoying to play on.

I'd play on a 32 player server, but they are all empty. The only servers that have people on them are 64 player servers.

IMHO, it would be better if the server software benchmarked the machine it was running on and refused to let you set a playercount that would increase response time noticeably.

Just tag on 100 at the end of every ping and that should be your average! It sucks!

7th Cav is the WORST of the 64 player servers. DDD use to be pretty bad but either they canceled or no one plays there anymore. 2FjG is probably the most solid but occasionally has ping spikes up to 800 at HILARIOUS intervals.

I seem to run the game efficiently at 30-50 fps and 250+ ping(when it spikes) Hardware, tanks, smoke, artillery and server load and ofcourse netcode are at play here.

7th Cav has tweaked their server at 50 players now. It plays much smoother. My ping was 100 -150 ms from Central Florida. (no idea where their server is.) I ping the Euro servers in RO:Ost at 150 or so and still fare pretty well.

We scaled back to 50 ages ago with an E3-1270. For some reason, it seems as though people love that 64 number and will play with the lag even though you can hardly tell the difference between 64 and 50 gameplay wise. Yet the load on the server is significantly less and the performance much better. Its easier on the client hardware as well. Its hard to understand the mindset sometimes.....

Is that really it? If this is the case, I have yet to find a server powerful enough to run the game.

TWI designed this game to run on some sort of hypothetical space aged server, that is powered by taping into the dark-matter energy given off by the super-massive black hole in the center of our galaxy.

i think they deserve a nobel prize...

lag is pritty much the main reason i stopped playing. unlocks and stuff are annoying but bareble but the lag i get from all servers is just out of control.

I used to think more players was automatically better, as it better simulates a real battelfield, but I feel that down to about 32 players the game doesn't feel very different (and actually feels a little more balanced) and it runs so much smoother.

The problem - I think - is that people just assume that war is BIG, so the servers must be too...
