Hello, new player here !
I have been following RO and RO:HOS for quite some time and have been playing killing floor.
I was discouraged to play Red Orchestra before because i thought it didnt had any singleplayer in wich to learn how to play, and heard that the game wasnt noob friendly. But i recently found here in the forums it actualy has a practice mode with bots, so i decided to try it out in order to get prepared for RO:HOS launch.

Soon enough i was jumping into multiplayer and it has been a great experience, i cant believe this game has been around since 2006, the gameplay is incredibly fun and adictive.

So my tips for new players is to jump into practice mode to learn this basics.
- Distinguish between soviet and german uniforms (so you dont shoot your team mates)
- Learn how to use the weapons ironsights (start with the bolt action rifle, soon enough you will be hitting the intended target)
- Learn how to take cover ( brave men know when to duck, prone and crouch are your friends)
-Customize the key assignements to your liking ( ironsights, prone and crouch and other stuff you use often)
-Know the maps and how to follow objectives in the tactical map.

After that, just jump into multiplayer and have fun. The comunity playing this game is more mature and helpfull than the gaming world average.

hmm, anibody knows why my achievments dont unlock, i have done way more than 10 kills on multiplayer vac and stats enabled servers and nothing. In killing floor they unlock almost instantaneously... not a big deal tought, but i must be missing something.

So have fun and thanks for having me !
One last note... :IS2: may be the best tank of WW2 but the war winners were the T34 and Sherman :D

I'm glad you like it:D And those were some pretty good tips for beginners!

If you haven't tried Darkest Hour yet, I highly suggest you do, in some ways it is even better than ROOST itself!

Yes PRAPOR i think it was that, yestarday i managed to enter a server with lots of players and the first achievment poped up fast, just like it does on kiling Floor.

And PRAPOR and U-S-E-R, you have made me curious about darkest hour mod, i already downloaded but didnt try it out yet. Too much to digest here on vanilla RO for now, but i will get there.

I am having a bit of dificulty to find servers well populated that have a decent ping for me, many of the times i end up playing with a few humans ( wich is fun ) and a bunch of bots ( wich isnt fun ), but i find out that at the end of the afternoon there is much more people on the servers, so its easier to find a good match.

Thanks for the feedback, have fun ! :)

Unfortunately, you're starting this great game at least 4 years too late
2007-2008-2009 can be marked the "golden age" of RO, with thousands of players and tens if not hundreds fo servers online.

Now it's just a shadow of its former glory...

Yes, great tips! I'm a new player too and have been enjoying it. Yes, distinguishing friend from foe is critical. I remember grey == German, greenish == Russian and I also read that Germans hold their rifles with 1 hand when the run, Russian's with both hands. Really looking forward to Hero's of Stalingrad as it's going to take this game and kick it up, as Emeril Lagasse would say "notches beyond what we've seen."

Now it's just a shadow of its former glory...

while that may be true by some account, RO still gets at least 80% of my gaming time. and all i need is one full or nearly full server. and every single night that i want to play, i can find one.

i really like that in the last few weeks, TWB's 'Old Glory' server has been rocking again for us North Americans.

the players are still around, servers are still around, and RO remains the best game out there until ROHoS comes out.

WELCOME new RO players! glad to have ya!

Agree, but 3 years ago it offered much more...
50 player servers ? np
32 player servers ? np, with every map being played on multiple of them, just pick and choose
Tank-only servers ? np, plenty of them...

True Heniu...the numbers of people playing it is not large relative to when it was a new game. However, I expect the numbers to spike quite a bit when the new RO game comes out, hopefully by the end of the year.

Or before it when people learn about RO2 and come to see ROOST until then:D

I still find it amazing that a game that has been around since 2006 still is remarkable in terms of gameplay. And i still didnt try out tanks ( i am more an infantry man) and there are also the Darkest Hour and Mare Nostrum mods, normandy and north africa...

I still cant hit the side of a barn with any of the submachine guns (no Ppsh power for me :( ). But the semiauto rifle is awesome... and the sniper looks a bit overpowered ( thank god there are so few on each map  )

But the players community is great, most of the players are quite mature, everibody forgives the unintended teamkills and such... like when i run into a friendly grenade (friendly fire, isnt :D ) Well there is the ocasional kid that starts teamkilling everybody on spawn, but they usualy get kicked out of server fast.

I still think there are lots of available servers, my only problem is that so many of them are so far from where i a am and have big pings, but sometimes i log into a server with 300 ping to find out i have a very playable ping of around 100, and so far i didnt had a single disconect or crash, thats a very stable game.

Anyway Tripwire did a great work with Red Orchestra and Killing Floor, when heroes of Stalingrad comes out, the servers will be crowded :D

But there will be no :IS2: on launch :p
Oh and gentleman thanks for the feedback and advice, i feel quite welcome here !
