I just want enough punters buying so that I can play this game for years rather than months.

On the subject of wild optimism I think RO2 has the potential to be another counter strike, something quite different and more lethal than it's contemporaries and from that getting a lot of interest from people fed up with endless generic shooters. I'd love to see servers packed out.

I'm not a "dood" - I'm English.

Am I the only one that prefers RO being sold to a small, dedicated niche market ? Obviously I want Ro:HoS to flourish but I dont want to be swamped with Call of Duty and Medal of Honor players that publish millions of videos of 1000m no-scopes on youtube. At the moment there is probably 2-5 players at any one time using their microphone per-game, as much as I want more communication I fear the first few weeks of RoHoS release, we will get a hell of a lot of new-comers on the public channel spending the entire game questioning everyone and anyone on why the game is so hard, and how to use the officer class.

Now, this is a really, REALLY tricky one. We want to sell enough to make the add-ons and to go on making games - the games that we want to play. And we want to make them REALLY nice. If we don't sell enough copies, we can't do that - BUT we want to make the games we enjoy. Tricky balance.

Ideal world: we sell a boat-load of RO2 AND people play it "the way we want them to play it". We'll see!

It will inevitably end that way, the game itself will weed out the misfits.
Who will still have bought the game :p
So they either cope with it and learn to play, leave, or be our cannonfodder.
All of which are acceptable.

I'd have thought of him more as General Melchett, like he comes to work in the morning with a loud "BEEEEEEHHH" (Or however you spell the noise he makes).
Well if that's the case then John(Rammjaeger)Gibsons must be Captain Slack Bladder, who everytime He gets a message from Alan (general melchett) about the release date, replies with "Didn't get message, someone ate speckled Jim and the boys have burnt the trench ladders":D......so does that make LeMon, Baldrick;)...and will the Yanks ask "what the hell they all talking about" and delay the release of RO2 by another 3 weeks while catching up on Blackadder goes forth and then starting on the Young Ones (cause of Instinct ;))...while Alan explains what the hell they're all talking about....alll these answers and more on the next episode of SOAP:D

It is a tricky balance when you don't know the outcomes.

I have always had the "if you build it they will come" philosophy. Based on what I've seen around the interwebs, I think you guys are going to have a very solid following right from the get go. I hate it when developers change their product in an attempt to anticipate what people will and will not like. The most successful and innovative things always come about because someone somewhere decided to do something cool in their own interest and a bunch of people happened to like it, making it successful.

As soon as you start seeing companies changing their values, you get games (or products in general) that don't please anyone or do anything innovative or interesting. Trying to please everyone is the biggest pitfall that I see entertainment falling into in recent years -- especially in regards to sequels or spin-off products.

I'm gonna be one of those guys so get used to it ! but don't worry I will learn to stay off the servers that have a bunch of know-it-alls with attitudes just as I do with any other game.

the "know it alls" are the majority here, so it's going to be you that's gonna have to get used to it.

if you can't handle the attitude, then i guess you can always go on back to cod.

thanks.
