Last night, pre-patch, I went up a level in machine gun success, only I hadn't touched an mg all night. This is the first false stat I have noticed in some weeks.

Tonight, post-patch, I wait a long time to get into the ONLY server with a decent ping for New York City that has more than 12 players in it. And the ONLY server on line with 64 players in it. It took RO I several years to reach such numbers.

On Fallen Fighters I am laying there waiting to cap Central Park, it hovers just a microbit away from completely capping and right when (I assume) it capped, I froze and crashed. I had been playing all of ten minutes.

I closed all other programs and ran that game boost thing which supposedly increased my gaming potential by 46%.

I went back in the game, got into the same map. I ran out the door of the spawn building, ran about ten years and was shot dead.

And the game crashed again.

I will not be going back.

Even with all its issues I have been enjoying playing this game. But there is so much that is starting to turn me off.
Thee is the arcade weaponry that allows people to snipe from a mile away with a submachine gun or that does not slow down a sprinter when you shoot them through the chest at close range, having to click the ready screen before you spawn rather than just spawning (I HATE missing spawns and having to wait a full cycle when I could have just spawned automatically), so many little things that never bothered me much, but has become more and more irritating and now back to crashes and false stats.

What a drag. No game with Red Orchestra in the title should need a realism mod. But this game certainly does. And the interface; the idea of squads is great, but without being able to call up the screen that flashes by showing who is in what squad and what ROLE they have, it will never be of any real use except in clan matches. Spawning on the SL is a great idea idea, there are other great ideas, but the irritants are starting to chafe.

And now I find the only servers left for Darkest Hour are tank servers and ROOst is pretty much gone too, one infantry server with like a dozen people on it.

Time to find another hobby.

The spawn choosing should use keys. Say, pressing 1, 2 or 3 (for spawning on SL). Such a simple idea, and it's PC game too, how could they miss this? It's pretty absurd they make you press that button every single time, and missing a spawn by a second because you couldn't reach the button fast enough is aggravating.

The drain; this game is below it.

The SDK will save the base of the game, I suppose, but as for the actual RO2... Lol.

Was playing a little bit tonite and I think the players sprint too fast especially up stairs. Its like I put ten rounds from a SMG into a guy and he doesnt even bandage. Or I shoot a guys leg 3 times (with a rifle) only to have him come around the corner and but stroke me. Longing for the RO1 and DH days. Still have hope though.....

@OP

I hope you will still come back once in a while to see if the game is improving.

Since the 2nd last patch (the one before yesterday), I am having ctd's very often. No matter which graphic setting I am chosing, the fps drops to 18-22 are following me all the time. Microstuttering is killing me and certainly my mood.
When I played last weekend, I also recognized that my kills showed that I was using an MP40, while I was a russian semi-rifleman. This is irritating, eventhough I don't care about the stats, but it just shows that sth is wrong there.

However, the ctd's that I never had before (ok, 3 times since release) have become so constant, that I am giving up.

I will check if the 15th November patch has sorted that out. If not, I will only come back to RO 2 on weekends to see if I am more lucky and if I can find a decent server. If not, well Arma 2 editor will keep me busy.

I cannot find the right words to explain my disappointment with this game...

PS: and yes, I also went through the problematic phase that RO 41-45 went through when initially released. However, I cannot remember it being so, how to put it, random?

RO1 had much better optimisation; the problems in this game arise from the fact that it's been poorly slapped together and was at least three months (and I'm being generous here) away from a releasable state.

I've been away a long time but I've got back into playing RO2 and am enjoying it in small bursts (good team-games on maps like Grain Elevator, 12 - 24 players is best I find) but the sheer number of frustrating things snowball to the point that after half an hour you just rage-quit.

The tiniest things are of utmost frustration... why can't I close the chat box with ESC? Why do I bring up the console every time I want to use an apostrophe? Does no one use grammar any more, or am I just being pedantic? Either way, it's a stupid choice of key for it. What was wrong with

Well I meant I would not be back that night.

I assume I am not the only one now crashing since the Nov 15 patch and that it will be fixed, maybe even has been already. Won't have time to try for a few days.

I play no other game. Well I have played Lord of the Rings Online since it launched, but rarely these days. That is for vegging out next to a pretty stream in the woods.

ROII is the only video game of its kind that I play.

But I think I will be looking into the most recent WWII era Call of Duty and read up on any realism mods made for it.

I am sure ROII is more realistic than any default Call of Duty type game, but I can see how a realism mod to a CoD would be more realistic than the current weapons and damage modeling in ROII.

So many things going for this game, or that COULD have gone. Even the misguided arcade features could have been tweaked or taken out.

But they refuse to do that, as if we hurt their feelings so they are just going leave it like it is.

What happened to the game with the miles of map and massive multiplayer matches that was even more realistic than ROost?

Gotta wonder.

Try Resistance and Liberation Gameplay --HD-- ... - YouTube

It's a little rough around the edges being a mod and all, but the dynamics are good, and the sound is passable for a mod.

(look how there's practically 0 hud compared to RO2's hudfest, and lots of little nice touches like pulling out a map actually takes time and you see your avatar do it)

Resistance and Liberation Gameplay Part 1 - YouTube

IMO its not realistic to expect RO2 to be what it should be for fans of RO1 when TWI are still of the mind that they can take their core base pretty much for granted, while spending most of its efforts chasing new customers (see tactical hud, bandages, no wound penalties, MKBs, super sprinting etc).

You can't blame them for wanting to be a commercial success, but at the same time I think you have to look to the mod scene to get what TWI used to provide. RO1 was a labour of love, RO2 was a commercial project. Seems like TWI got caught up in thinking more features = better rather than focussing on the core game dynamics that made RO1 work, which was the a very delicate balance of gameplay dynamics, a dynamic that has unfortunately been lost to a tidal wave of automatic weapons, poor interface and misguided game design.

I'm not sure what the cause is but RO2 is just far less exciting and tense than RO1, even though on the face of it, the new features and fluidity should have made it better.

TWI are going to be spending the next 6 months fixing bugs and sorting the abysmal stats system, so I wouldn't expect any strong remedy for a while. Perhaps a year from now they can realize that if they want to keep their core fanbase they need to start listening and making concessions (And stop pandering to the 'casual' market).

Also, TWI, I bought your game, and I bought RO1, and I recommended both to friends, so please don't block what I have to say just because I'm disappointed with your product.

I get crashes more often now, and at the worst of times, like right after i die.
I don't want to seem as if i'm RQ'ing. :(
